Sloths, monkeys, pigs & lots of birds. Beautiful views of the volcano and surrounding area. We had an amazing guide that had great knowledge of the area that provided history as well as plants and animals. The spotting scope added to the experience.

This was a cultural history hike, not a nature hike. Our guide was extremely knowledgeable and shared much of Costa Rican history. The hike was moderate, and a little tricky due to the rain but was still invigorating. If you are looking to learn a little while breathing the fresh air, this is for you!

Good long hike. Moderate level of difficulty at times. Hiking stick made available at the start of the hike is a must for the hike, especially when climbing down. The guide was knowledgeable, friendly and helpful. Very enjoyable experience with spectacular volcano and lake views. Recommend doing it in the morning.

Marco (not polo) was a great guide! He was very knowedgeable of the history of the Arenal Volcano, and the nature surronding the Volcano. He spen additional time educating us of the vegetation along the way as wel as the wild life. Amazing experience! He even stopped to help us find us a Sloth on way back! Absoluetly worth it!!

Arenal Volcano Hike

It was great tour. We just finished a tour today and are guide was wearing his mask all the time outside and in the van. Our guide didn’t wear his mask outside and was coming close to us when talking, we were nervous so kept our masks on, he didn’t wear a mask in the Van and didn’t ask the other couple to do so till I said something . I think the guide should take a test and then the tour group should let us know.

We greatly enjoyed our hiking tour with our very knowledgeable guide who explained much particularly about the flora as we climbed the side of the volcano to the lava deposits from the 1968 eruption. We certainly would not have had the same experience had we taken the trail on our own. We were with one other couple who were birders so this became an interesting focus also , enhancing our trip. It was interesting to learn how this eruption in Costa Rica was so different to eruptions in areas like Hawaii. Despite the inclement weather which must be expected in a rain forest, the experience was nevertheless well worth our anticipated adventure. We were even treated to a viewing of a sloth as we were returning to our accommodation. Though he was high up in his tree, with the aid of a telephoto lens on a tripod which our guide had, we were able to see him quite clearly. He placed our phones next to his device to produce clear pictures as keepsakes. This was definitely a worthwhile tour. Though we were not able to see the top of the Arenal Volcano this particular day due to low clouds, we saw her in all her glory the following day.
