What You Can Expect

Best Canyoning in the Lost Canyon

Canyoning in the Lost Canyon

Awaken your inner jungle explorer on this 4-hour Costa Rica canyoning tour. You’ll be picked up at your La Fortuna hotel for the short drive to the Lost Canyon, located near Arenal Volcano. An experienced guide will present a safety briefing and help you gear up with a hard hat and harness. To begin, test out your rappelling skills on a 10-foot (3.5-meter) cliff alongside a waterfall.

Once you’re warmed up, tackle a 150-foot (45-meter) cliff known locally as ‘Big Boy.’ Use the rock face to rappel halfway down, and then hang on for a thrilling drop into a natural swimming pool. Next up, descend the granddaddy of the Lost Canyon — a 200-foot (60-meter) cliff and waterfall. Cool off after your descent with a swim in the water waiting below.

Your guide will lead you on foot through the lush, rugged terrain of the canyon, where you’ll climb over boulders and splash down a natural waterslide. Learn about native plant species and be prepared to encounter the many birds, insects and animals that inhabit the area. Refuel with an authentic Costa Rican lunch before the return trip to La Fortuna.

This was a super fun outing! Totally loved it! We've been ziplining and rappelling before, so it wasn't scary. It's adventurous, but they can tailor it for many ability levels. Wish the waterfalls had been a bit more dramatic, but overall, I'd do it all again and again! The crew and guides for DeSafio Adventure Co are fantastic and they really MAKE the trip. Lunch at the end is ample and tasty, served on a nice outdoor patio. There are lockers for your things. Don't bring a camera on the outing, unless it's totally waterproof.... Prepare to get completely wet they provide towels. Wear sturdy footwear! The photos they sold as a package at the end are absolutely worth the price! Loved, loved this and would do it again.

Awesome time! There is a 'staircase' to hike at the end to the base camp, but most of the hike is on rocks and paths. Wear shoes and clothes to get WET! I had never rappelled before and had a great time. 57, active, and adventurous, took 20 year old son.

An absolutely awesome adventure. Victor, Joshua and David were fun, very professional and always concerned for our safety. The canyons, waterfalls and environment in general were all gorgeous and only regret is not having a GoPro to capture it all. The rappelling itself was amazing and everyone should experience only super slight complaint would be that you only rappel down about halfway on the second largest canyon and about a fourth of the way on the largest before letting go and sliding down the line...although the slide down is fun, I would have rather rappelled to the bottom of each. Despite this minor quibble, I would still highly recommend this tour to everyone.

This tour was unbelievably amazing. The guides were super friendly and very happy. They made me feel completely safe when doing the rappelling and went out of their way to make the experience memorable. The photo option was very affordable ($25 USD). I would recommend this to everyone! Amazing!!!!!
