Cooking Class with a Local Costa Rican Family

Cooking with Locals and Dinner

Costa Rican life is filled with fresh food prepared in the spirit of pura vida — the pure life. Enjoy the pura vida spirit and true Tico hospitality with this home visit and cooking lesson. Your guide will pick you up at your La Fortuna hotel for a short drive out to the home of a local family. Learn about the country’s agriculture and cuisine along the way.
Your friendly hosts will welcome you into their home and enlist you in the preparation of a typical home-cooked meal. You might visit the family’s vegetable garden to pick fresh produce for a salad. Learn about common ingredients found in many Costa Rican dishes, such as yucca, the taro-like tiquisque and the tart fruit mamón chino. Alongside your hosts, you’ll cook comida tipica such as rice and beans, empanadas, hearty stew and fried plantains.

Sit down with your new friends to enjoy the meal and practice your Spanish. With appetites sated, you and your guide will depart for the return trip to your La Fortuna hotel.

We had a good time, four of us went together and there were five more there. We all help in the preparation. It would have been nice if the tables were set in an Lshaoe so we could have all been together during the preparation instead of separating us into 2 groups.
