Wrap up cozily and begin your experience with a pickup from your central Saariselkä hotel. Settle into your coach or minivan and travel to the snowmobile station to pick up your gleaming, 2-person vehicle.
Get a safety briefing and instructions, and don your provided thermal clothing and helmet. Hop on your snowmobile as the driver or pillion passenger, switch on the headlights, and drive in convoy behind your guide vehicle.
Glide into the darkness-cloaked fells around Saariselkä and absorb the stillness of the forests. If the skies are clear, moonlight will illuminate the trails, making your journey extra magical.
Take turns driving and riding as you wish, and wind your way around undulating fells and snowy woodlands — it’s a serious thrill!
As you travel, look for the Northern Lights or Aurora Borealis. These luminescent veils of light only occur in the northern latitudes, when electrically charged particles hit the Earth’s atmosphere. Sightings are dependent on weather, location and chance, and with luck on your side, there’s a great chance of catching a display.
Pull up at an igloo and kota camp in the fells, and visit a converted igloo-theater to watch a multimedia show on the Northern Lights. Learn fascinating facts about the natural displays, and then stroll around the woodlands or camp to gaze up at the skies.
Take a break inside a firelit kota to refuel with sausages and hot berry juice. As you warm up by the fire, listen to some of the Lapland myths and mysteries associated with the lights.
Afterward, ride your snowmobile back to base, where your expedition ends with a hotel drop-off.
