What You Can Expect

Meet your small group in Jardim Afonso de Albuquerque at 3pm, and get ready for your Belém adventure. In the public square, you can catch a glimpse of the Vasca de Gama statue — a tribute to the first Portuguese explorer to reach India by sea.

Follow your guide through Lisbon as he or she gives you insight into the history of the area, including its role in the 15th and 16th centuries and the Age of Enlightenment, when the Portuguese were some of the most instrumental explorers in the world. You'll stop at the Jerónimos Monastery — the first UNESCO World Heritage–listed site of your trip — and the Discoveries Monument that celebrates Portugal's explorers and seafarers.

Make sure to bring some extra money with you because the tour stops at Pastéis de Belém, a local pastry shop that’s more than 100 years old. Pick out Portuguese baked goods you can enjoy in the moment or take back to your hotel.

Your tour ends at Belém Tower, a UNESCO World Heritage-listed monument built in the 16th century.

Fantastic! Rui, the tour guide, was incredible. He went out of his way to make the experience outstanding.
The only complaint would be that there was a communication problem between what was given to me and the tour guide about time of tour. It was only by chance that Rui met up with us.

Highly knowledgeable tour guide, very reliable and went above and beyond to make the tour historical. Guide was a culture lover, he was not only well informed about Portugal but was also as equally educated about many of the Countries Portugal had colonized in history. It was a very pleasant, very engaging tour. I will recommend this tour to my friends. Great memories were made!
