Experience Lisbon: Small-Group Walking Tour with Food and Wine Tastings

Enjoy savoring the delicious natas

Meet your local guide at Restauradores Square in central Lisbon for your small-group walking tour with food and wine tastings. Begin your 3.5-hour tour learning how Portugal dedicated this square to the reclamation of its independence in 1640 after 60 years of Spanish rule.

Stroll to the multicultural neighborhood of Mouraria. Hear how this was traditionally a district home to Muslims and later Jews. Get a local feel as you explore the small churches, mosques, and charming international shops. Here, visit the birthplace of Maria Severa, the Queen of Fado, and learn about Portugal’s own musical genre that was inscribed in the UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage list in 2011.

Walk with your guide and discover a bakery tucked away from the crowds. Indulge a mouth-watering pastry with a hot coffee as your guide tells stories of Lisbon lore. Next, see the Neo-Manueline façade as you promenade past Rossio train station towards Rossio Square. At this 19th century historical square observe classic calcada Portuguesa stones assembled to resemble waves which may pay tribute to the devastating Lisbon earthquake of 1755.

As you make your way towards beautiful Carmo Square, see churches and other historical landmarks. Then, stop at cute shop and sample local marmalade and delicious Portuguese cheese. After a short walk, enjoy stunning views of Carmo Convent and short while later climb to the top of Santa Justa funicular. From this vantage point, stare out over Lisbon’s historic center.

Walk onward to the lively Chiado district and soak up the excitement of surrounding boutiques, classic bookstores, and trendy cafes. Then, see Lisbon’s best bars and the center of nightlife in the Barrio Alto district. Your tour reaches its climax aboard a short ferry ride of the River Tagus. Cruise to Cacilhas, rich with maritime heritage, and savor fresh seafood paired with Portuguese green wine. Capture stellar views of the Tagus River before you finish your meal and head back to central Lisbon where your tour ends.

Pedro was absolutely amazing! He was so knowledgeable about the city but he was so personable and funny that I felt like I was spending the day with an old friend. The route we walked took us through many locations and neighborhoods you probably wouldn't probably venture to so that was the best part of the tour. I did this tour on my last full day in Lisbon but would highly suggest other do it upon arrival as it really does give you an incredible sense of the city. The food and wine was also very good. At the end of the tour Pedro visited with each person to answer questions and provide suggestions on where to eat, what to do, where to go. I would definitely recommend this tour to anyone visiting Lisbon.

Our tour guide was very informative and managed to keep things lively even when we got stuck in a downpour. She took us to a local market to pick up umbrellas, and then continued on our tour. Good overview of the city and insight into places to visit on our own afterward.

This was an amazing tour. We were so lucky to have Helder of Lisbon Urban Adventures as our guide. He made Lisbon history come alive with his gift of storytelling. My husband and I enjoyed the food tasting. Cheese, marmalade, port, green wine Ginjinha, pasteis de nata...yummy!

Our guide Helder was extremely informative and interesting and told us lots about Portugal in general and Lisbon in particular while he guided us around central Lisbon. The tour is very good value for money, since it lasted about 4.5 hours and even incorporated a ferry trip to the south bank of the Tagus to sample typical Portuguese starters and sparkling wine. It would have been nice to have an opportunity to buy some of the food we sampled, but that is just a small point and I would highly recommend this tour.
