Excellent tour with a very entertaining guide!
We were picked up in front of our hotel at 0845 and sat in the front of the van as there were an additional 6 already there. We then proceeded to the Palace of Queluz, all the while our guide provided stories and information about Portugal. When we arrived at Queluz, he arranged for us to purchase our tickets to there, Pena, and the bus transfer at Pena, gave us some info on the palace and grounds and allowed us about an hour and a half to explore. It is a beautiful place.
From there we headed to to Sintra and stopped off in the town. We had two hours to have lunch, explore, etc. We decided to head over to Quinta and explore their amazing grounds. It was about a ten minute walk and I believe the tickets were around 10 a piece. Bear in mind, the walk in almost entirely uphill on cobblestones and may be difficult for some. However, it is so worth it, an absolutely amazing are. We had plenty of time to come back into Sintra and enjoy some pastries and ginjihna.
We met back up with our guide by the palace and then headed up the mountain to Pena. The van can only take you to the entrance and then you can take the bus you have already purchased a transfer 3 up a steep hill to the palace door. We had about an hour and a half to explore the ground and palace. I would suggest taking the bus up and then walk back down to the entrance so you can enjoy the gardens. The views from the palace are breathtaking. I only wish there was more time so that we could have gone up to the cross at the top of the mountain quite a climb or down to the Moorish castle.
After that we headed out to the coast and got to see some incredibly large waves from the cliffs before stopping at the Boca da Inferno, a beautiful cave created by the sea. We stopped there for a bit, had a beer and then headed into Caiscais. We had about an hour and a half there to walk around.
Finally, we drove through Estoril, looked at the casino from the outside and then headed back to Lisbon. We arrived back at our hotel 1830.
All in all, it was a great tour with a great guide. I would highly recommend.
This was a great experience. We booked last minute and completed the group of 8 on the tour. It was money well spent, as Joaquim provided door-to-door service from hotel to each sight, and back to a restaurant he recommended based on our love of Harry Potter. In fact, he often pointed out things or made recommendations personalized to the interests of the various group members. Tip--trust him on the vinho verde! He was very knowledgeable and provided much history and context during the travel times between sights. Even my 11yr old was engaged and able to apply what he told us to what we were seeing. Highly recommend this tour with Joaquim!
A well and smart planned trip where we had the possibility to see many interesting places in one day. The guide was easy going and well aquainted with everything he told us about. Interesting to listen to him and very good to be guided in the minibus between places and walk around on your own at the sites. Restaurant recommendation from the guide about a place in Sintra turned out to be very good. Well priced, well planned and smoothly followed out tour. Suits anyone interested in seeing the best places around Lisbon.
Great day trip with our very knowledgeable guide Joachim. He provided a very comprehensive commentary and lots of tips along the way. We visited Queluz Palace and gardens amazing, Sintra and Pena Palace beware the crowds!, Capo da Rocha and Cascais. We had a great day.
Excellent tour guide. Very knowledgeable. We saw a LOT. Our lunch stop was in a small and charming village, at a restaurant recommended by our guide, rather than a more tourist oriented venue. We had a wonderful time!

This was a very good tour. Sintra is a must see when visiting Lisbon.
This was an amazing tour led by Alex who was very knowledgeable about the different sites and pretty creative in introducing some of the material. I think the small tour format ours was a group of 3 helps with being able to talk and ask more questions of the guide, compared to a larger group, as well as more time to see sites, as you aren't herding as many cats. Our food stop was amazing near Cabo de Roca. The weather was great, allowing for a great view at Cabo de Roca and then travelling the back-way through the national forest to the Sintra castle was fantastic.
I've already suggested this tour to a number of friends on Facebook and will take my family on it the next time we are all in Portugal. I still have fond memories of the Naples tour Mt. Vesuvius hike and Pompeii tour, also booked on Viator.
El picked us up on time and was very friendly and likeable. We had French and English speaking people and he handled with with expertise. He was very informative. At Pena Palace, Sintra and Calais we were on our own with a meeting time and this worked really well. The Palace was truly amazing, something I would not want to have missed. By booking this tour it just made it so much easier and more enjoyable. On the way back did a couple of stops along the coast which we would not have otherwise done. The Royal Palace was fantastic and El was our excellent guide. I can highly recommend this tour.
Very beautiful and historical tour and loved that there were only five of us which made it very conversational for everyone
Joaquim was a great tour guide. Gave us plenty of time to do so much without rushing. He was also very informative and entertaining. The whole day went by so quickly. Had a great time. Recommended.
Start to finish--one of the best travel values I've ever experienced. Loved my guide, Alex. I highly recommend this door-to-door service.
This was an extremely enjoyable, fun and informative tour. Joaquim was a great tour guide, very friendly and knowledgeable. The inclusion of the Queluz Palace was a definite bonus, it is a gem of a place. We had enough free time at each stop to enjoy and explore the various locations, and to have a nice lunch stop at Sintra. We found a quiet restaurant tucked away in a hidden corner can't remember the name unfortunately which was a real find, away from the busy tourist places. Joaquim also gave us valuable advice on things to do for the rest of our stay. He also speaks excellent English and Spanish!
We were absolutely delighted to have Carlos as our guide for the trip. He was very knowledgeable about Lisbon history and explained turns of events in a fun, storytelling fashion. Carlos was great at knowing insider tips at each place we went to, guiding us on how best to tour the castles, getting tickets and beating the line/saving time, giving recommendations on where to eat, and showing us interesting homes, views and points of interest that we would have otherwise overlooked. You'll appreciate the beauty and culture of Portugal while enjoying his friendly and engaging personality.
I would highly recommend this tour......Joaquim was excellent....van was very comfortable for our group of 6.....he knew is history and very interesting......
Sintra is so beautiful and quaint, packed with tourists. Taking a small group was definitely a great decision. Our tour guide was fun, versatile and super knowledgeable. The whole day was amazing and I met really interesting people.
We had a whole day and our driver was very knowledgeable about the history of Portugal and all the sights we saw
Great excursion! What beautiful little villages along the way! The beaches were quite a surprise to us-the village of Cascais was a surprise! I felt that I was on the coast of Italy!
Joaquim was a wonderful. Very knowledgeable ,pleasent, and a great representative of your company
Our guide Joaquin was humorous and knowledgeable. He made our trip to Sintra and Cascais very enjoyable. We saw the wonderful coastline as we journeyed through Sintra and Cascais. On this tour we saw the National Pena Palace, The Queluz Palace, Cabo Da Roca, and had a wonderful lunch at a restaurant, recommended by Joaquin. Very good seafood! We enjoyed this tour and would recommend it to fellow travelers.
After spending 3 days in Lisbon this tour was a perfect end to my trip through Europe and a great opportunity to get a ways out from the city! The Sintra palace was amazing and was within a beautiful national park. Driving along the coastline was also fantastic but I do wish there was a little more time on the tour to spend in Cascais but it definitely is a busy day. Andre was a great host and was great about including everyone on the tour. Had a wonderful time definitely worth it!
Joaquim is an excellent guide, knowledgeable and passionate about Portugal. His humor, fun conversation and energy made this tour one of the highlights of our trip in the Lisbon region.
Joaquim L. was AWESOME! Very knowledgable about the history and culture, and he was very entertaining in the process. Sintra and the Pena Palace was beautiful, and this tour included a tour of the Portuguese Royal Palace, Queluz, on the way to Sintra. The ride to the coast and Cascias was stunning, and the town of Cascais was delightful. It was a lovely way to spend the day!
