What You Can Expect

Lisbon Shore Excursion: Private Lisbon, Sintra and Cascais Sightseeing and Food Tour by Convertible Beetle

Enjoy a scenic sightseeing and food shore excursion by VW Beetle

Your private Lisbon shore excursion begins once you dock at Lisbon’s historic port and meet your expert local guide and driver. Get acquainted with your guide, as well as your sleek Volkswagen Beetle, and then start your 6-hour journey.

Feel the wind breeze past you as your driver takes you along the Portuguese coast, passing beautiful views of craggy ocean bluffs. Listen to historical anecdotes about this storied land as you make your way to your first stop. Soon, after approximately 30 minutes, arrive at the charming village of Sintra. Sintra was once a royal retreat for Portugal’s upper-crust, and today it remains a popular draw for visitors who come to see the UNESCO-listed Sintra-Vila.

After strolling the scenic cobbled streets and admiring the quaint architecture, buckle up and enjoy a scenic drive through Sintra National Park, past the Monserrate Palace and  Quinta da Regaleira estate. When you reach Cape Roca (Cabo da Roca), Europe’s westernmost point, enjoy ample time to admire the oceanic views. Indulge in a glass of ginjinha, a traditional Portuguese liqueur and a pastry, then move on to Cascais.

Soak up the classical beach views of the popular resort town of Cascais, and see Hell’s Mouth (Boca do Inferno), a sea cave. Continue along the Tagus River to Belém, an eastern district of Lisbon. Here, take in more views and stop at a local cafe for light bites, including canned sardines, roasted chorizo sausage and a classic pastel de Belém.

Cruise back to Lisbon, and stop at Fig Tree Square (Praça da Figueira) to sample a few more Portuguese specialities, like bifana along with a rissole de Leitao (suckling pig rissole) and local ice cream, all accompanied by a refreshing beer. When you’re belly is full, return to your port for a timely departure.

Worry-free Shore Excursion:

You won't have to worry about missing your boat on this Viator worry-free shore excursion. We make sure you return to your port in time for your departure. We were on a cruise in Lisbon and the driver Ricardo drove to the pier to pick us up on Sept 9, 2015. Ricardo was very pleasant and quite knowledgeable of current info in the area. He is not a certified, license tour guide in Spain so his knowledge of history is a bit weak, but we had a very pleasant day with him since we weren't really touring historical buildings. The car was comfortable and he is a very safe driver. He lives near Cascais so he knew alot about that lovely town. We got a glass of port or sherry at Cabo Da Roca, the western most pt in Europe, but food was not provided as described in the title. We had about 50 minutes in Sintra to go to a restaurant to buy a light lunch. The cars are 1970 era VW bettles, so don't expect any modern safety equipment. However most of the driving is around town at low speed, under 45mph. We had a nice time and enjoyed the views from the back seat with the top down.

This was a great experience. Our guide and driver was very helpful and respectful. He took us to really interesting places, provided us with treats and even lunch. The car is small of course so we were a little cramped, but it was great fun and we highly recommend it.
