This was amazing , being Portuguese and having my friends from Denver experience this tour was great!
Joanna was a passionate accademic about the history of Lisboa and Fado. We were delighted by her commentary and especially the Fado and meal at the end of the tour.
I was skeptical at first...a walking tour--I can do that on my own--not so! It was one of our most favorite nights out. Our tour guide Ricardo was so knowledgeable and lovely company. He took us through back streets and into the heart of Alfama with a short stop at a little bar for some Ginginha. The restaurant Fado em Si was excellent and the Fado singers truly talented and entertaining. If you want to immerse yourself in the Portuguese culture--this is a must!
Very interesting, enjoyable PM walking and Fado tour with a lively and energetic guide Joana, who spoke excellent clearly articulated easy to hear and understand English, was straightforward, and had a good sense of humor. She studied art history, and works as a librarian during the day. There were 13 people 4 Germans, a couple Aussies, and I believe the rest were Americans. We met the obelisk near the Restauradores Plaza, and then walked a little over two hours through narrow alleys and streets we would not likely have wandered into without a guide, including into the Moorish and Alfama districts, stopping on the way at a hole in the wall little tavern to taste ginjhina, the Portugese sour cherry liqueur very nice liqueur, but avoid the scary WC. We also rode a tram uphill, 12, that parallels the famous Tram 28. The walking was moderately strenuous, about 3 miles plus guide stops. Though there were no major uphills, we had downhills on irregular surfaces. The major walking challenge was at times walking on the finely polished cobblestones in some areas, which can be slippery, and trying to stay upright while riding the crowded tram uphill. The Fado performance and small plates food served at the end were also very nice and representative of Portuguese food. I had never heard Fado before, thought it sounded a lot like Russian gypsy music.
Unfortunately due to delay in catching the tram, we did not make it to the top of the hill before the sun set, it was already dark, though it was still quite pretty. A couple pointers:
Wear shoes with good grip, for the slick cobblestones.
Tour was scheduled to last 3 hours but worked out to 2.5 hours walking sans WC, then over 1.5 hours fado and food. When got to the restaurant it was almost 9:30, and then tradition is not to eat during the performances, which alternated fado singing 3 songs at a time, four sets with 20 minutes eating at a time. Eat a bit before the tour if you hunger easily, or eat fast. Fun!
It was a wonderful tour with a lovely person our tour guide joana.
Joana is a very good tour guide and a teacher for Lisbon history with such a great sense of humor
It was an evening I will remember for a long time.
Thank you Joana for making one of my dreams come true- fado music in Lisbon.
See next time.
Our Guide was Joana Mateus. The walk around the old parts of Lisbon was very interesting and informative, with plenty of historical detail. The Fado show with food was brilliant ! I am a fado afficionado, but the show was even better than I anticipated - longer and much more varied with many different artistes and styles. Joana was a great guide - she had extremely good local knowledge, and there were no questions she couldn't answer. That coupled with her good sense of humour made a very entertaining evening !
I had a great time on this tour and explored areas of Lisbon where I would never venture alone. The guide, Tiago, was knowledgeable and enthusiastic.
Danny her nick name was great. I would ask for her on our next visit
This was a surprisingly informative as well as entertaining tour. Our tour leader Joana was the BEST. She shared her passion for Portugal and Fado and gave Lisboa a whole new dimension for visitors.
While the shorter days prevented us from really seeing the sunset, this tour was one of the highlights of my trip to Lisbon. Our guide, Pedro, was knowledgeable and enthusiastic about both the city and fado, and made the experience very enjoyable.
Daniela was fantastic! Very lively and informative tour. I especially enjoyed the neighborhoods and the historic descriptions of each area. Thank you!
Joanna was a great, passionate and enthusiastic guide who was very personable and accommodating.
The walk was easy and informative.
This tour is a must to get to know Portugals history of music and food.
Daniela was the most engaging tour guide. Funny with great stories. Explained all the sites in great detail. Fado was nice but nothing special. Food OK. But Daniela more than made up of any shortcomings. Would recommend to people who have never been to Lisboa.

Daniela Lisbon born and raised was my guide for this tour, and she covered everything in the description of the tour. She was fun, knowledgeable, and informative on the different aspects of the tour. It was just myself and a couple with a young child on this tour. The couple were very pleasant to be with, and their child well behaved this could pose a problem if there were to be an unruly child in your group. Not sure why, but we spent some extra time at the restaurant which was great!, more Fado to experience, and time to fully enjoy dinner and wine. The food was traditional food of Lisbon, and there was a good variety of it on our plates. The wine was a choice of red or white, and it was good not outstanding. I am a first timer to Lisbon, I feel I got a lot out of this tour. I would highly recommend it to anyone!
Great tour!! Just a delightful city and a very charming guide. We had the best night, exploring the old town and riding a tram, seeing the streets alive with locals and buzz of the evening. The Fado show was excellent and the food very good. It was beyond what we expected. There were only 4 of us on the tour with our guide so we received very personal service. We were all on a cruise ship overnighting in Lisbon. Our guide called a taxi for us and made sure we arrived safely back on the ship. Highly recommended!
Daniela, our guide, was fantastic. She was so knowledgeable and presented the info with such enthusiasm. Tiago was great too! We walked through the old parts of town, and sampled some local drinks in addition to taking a ride on the tram.
The fado show and dinner was great. Daniela gave us some background on the fado and helped us understand what was happening.
I highly recommend this tour!
Wonderful evening. The walking tour was set up so you were never walking uphill. The fado show was fun and the food provided was a full meal.
This tour was very well organized, interesting and a lot of fun. Our tour guide Dani was fantastic. Highly recommend.
Was a lot of fun . Guide was great. Fado was wonderful. We recommend it highly
It was an unforgettable experience! Tiago is a perfect guide with wonderful sense of humour and in-depth knowledge.

Pedro was a knowledgeable and enthusiastic guide. The Fado performances were excellent. All in all a great walking tour through neighborhoods of Mouraria, Grasso and Alfama.
I had the pleasure of attending the Sunset Fado walking tour of Lisbon with Joana this week. It turned out I was the only one that day so I ended up getting a private tour! Joana was incredible, with plenty of knowledge and an obvious love for Lisbon and for Fado. I enjoyed every minute and now I have a great appreciation for Fado and have also made a new friend. :))
