Sintra and Cascais Small-Group Day Trip from LisbonExperience Portugal's natural beauty and historic prowess with a journey to the UNESCO World Heritage-listed town of Sintra and the coastal resort town of Cascais.
In Sintra, your first stop is Pena National Palace, perched on a hill high above the city. This UNESCO World Heritage-listed Romanticist palace is one of the most revered landmarks in Portugal. Enter the palace to admire the Arab Room and the detailed features in the king and queen's bedrooms, and head to the Queen’s Throne to look out over the Atlantic Ocean.
Continue to the historical center of Sintra, where you’ll have free time to explore the town, have lunch or perhaps visit Sintra National Palace (own expense).
Admire the landscapes of Sintra-Cascais Natural Park on your way to the cliffs of Roca Cape and the surfer's paradise of Guincho Beach. Pass the cliff at Hell’s Mouth and stop to stretch your legs along the bay.
Arrive in Cascais, a coastal town that transformed from a quiet fishing village into a chic resort destination after gaining fame from Portugal's royal family in the 19th century. Stroll the beaches, wander the charming cobbled streets and learn about the town's maritime history and important agricultural industries.
Take in peaceful coastal views on the drive back to Lisbon.
Fátima, Nazaré and Óbidos Small-Group Day Trip from LisbonTake another day trip from Lisbon, this time to Fátima, Nazaré and Óbidos. Your first stop is Fátima, located 1.5 hours away. The town of Fátima, whose name derives from a Moorish princess, is one of the most important Catholic shrines in the world. Visit the Sanctuary of Fátima, which welcomes millions of pilgrims and tourists from around the globe, and honors the apparition of the Virgin Mary.
Next, head to the fishing town of Nazaré, the most picturesque coastal resort in the Estremadura region. Enjoy free time to stroll the harbor, filled with traditional wooden boats, or explore the cobbled lanes in search for the perfect lunch spot (own expense).
Drive along the cliffs above Nazaré to the ancient village of Óbidos. Óbidos is commonly known as the 'wedding present town,' as it was a gift from King Dinis to Queen Isabel on their wedding day in 1282.
Follow your guide to a local wine shop to sample ginja, a Portuguese liqueur. Then enjoy free time to explore the village’s narrow streets, medieval fortress and art shops. Return to Lisbon in the evening.

Great value, definitly worth doing.

Each of these places has its own story, charm and beauty--the interior of the Pena Palace in Sintra is stunning. But I would not have been able to fully enjoy and appreciate them without my personable and knowledgable guides, Joao and Gustavo. They immeasurably enhanced my experience with their extensive knowledge of the history and culture of each place and with their friendly and engaging personalities. A big thanks to them!
Excellent Two-Day Portugal Introduction

Sintra/Cascais trip was outstanding. Sintra best part! Fatima, a religious destination, was best part of second day.
Time well worth spending outside of LIsbon

Each day brought insight into the history and culture of Portugal. Sintra is a gem- a small, cobblestoned town with small shops, cafes, and tile makers. Cascais, the castle pictured here, is a mix of centuries, reaching back hundreds of years. Fatima has a fascinating story of faith and marks the end of a spiritual journey for many faithful, the Nazare and Obidos round out the cultural aspects.
Outstanding Tour

Wonderful two days exploring. We discovered things we did not know about. Great guides, especially Vlad.
Sintra, Cascais, Fatima, etc.

We had a wonderful time on our two day Viator trip mainly because of our guide, Joao Ferrao (who we nicknamed Bruno!), The sights were amazing but Joao made sure that everyone's needs were met from a language point of view (he had to narrate the tour in English and Spanish on the second day's trip) as well as concerning himself with our comfort and safety. I would highly recommend Viator for any trips in Portugal and ask for Joao. Terry and Susan

Ambivalent About This Super Saver
, Oct 2018
The day trip to Sintra and Cascais is a must. Pedro, our tour guide for this first trip was exceptional. The second trip to Fátima, Nazaré and Óbidos I recommend you do on your own, in your own time and with company. Our tour guide, Paulo, for this second trip was disappointing.

Each day we had a different tour guide, Jose and Ricardo, both were extremely knowledgeable about the site, history and Portugal in general. They also were genuinely nice people. They were attentive to everyone’s needs. The tours were great. We saw so many fabulous sites and even saw more than we expected. I highly recommend this 2 day package.
