What You Can Expect

Lisbon in One Day Small-Group Tour

Walk through popular neighborhoods in Lisbon

Meet your guide at your Lisbon hotel and set off for your guided tour of Portugal’s hilly capital. Board an air-conditioned minivan and head to Lisbon’s riverside district of Belém and see two UNESCO World Heritage-listed monuments. First, visit the 16th-century Jeronimos Monastery and listen as your guide explains how the ornate arches and abundance of pinnacles is a prime example of Portuguese Manueline-style architecture. Nearby, see the Belém Tower, where soldiers once gazed over the Tagus River searching for incoming invaders.

Continue to the Monument to the Discoveries which honors Portugal’s Age of Discoveries and its navigators who left to explore trade opportunities with India and the Orient. From here, enter a nearby cafe and taste a renown Portuguese egg tart pastry, pastel de nata (included).

Afterward, continue to Mãe d’Água (Mother of Water), a massive reservoir built between the 18th and 19th century that stored water from the Águas Livres aqueduct. Inside, see a small museum dedicated to the history of water supply in the city. Access the terrace for an impressive view over Lisbon.

Next, stretch your legs with a walking tour through Lisbon's historic center. See some of the traditional neighborhoods like Castelo, Mouraria, and Alfama, the city's oldest district. Learn about the influence of the Moors in this 8th-century neighborhood and then meander around narrow streets up to Graça viewpoint, where you can take in one of the best bird’s eye views of Lisbon.

Your tour will conclude with drop-off in central Marquês de Pombal and/or Rossio.

This was a great tour. Our guide, Patricia picked us up from our hotel and gave a preview of the day. We started with the Belem Tower and then walked over to the Monument to the Discoveries. From there we headed to taste the custard tart pastel de nata. From there we walked over to the Jeronimos Monastery. We did not go into the monastery but the adjacent church. If you want to visit the monastery, then that would be done to your own expense and at another time.

We then took a tour of the viaduct and then head to the historic center where we had a walking tour and took in some more sights. We visited St George's Castle and afterward had a sample of Ginja - a cherry liqueur that is drank from little chocolate cup.

And finally, more walking through the little streets and ended up in Rossio square.

We had a wonderful day and learned so much about Lisbons history. Our guide, Miguel, was excellent and very personable. Kudos to the very courteous driver, Tiago, who maneuvered through the city and small spaces without any problems. We had an enjoyable traditional Portuguese lunch along the way. We highly recommend this tour.

This tour is definetly worth its money. You are driven around the city and if you have to walk, most of the walking is downhill which is nearly impossible in Lisbon.
You get to visit Belem and taste a pastry there which is included, you visit the Watermuseum right before lunch which was very nice, the restaurant even provided a vegetarian dish which is not easily found in Portugal. Afterwards you go to one of the best view points in the city and can optional visit the castle on your own expanse. Then you take a stroll through the city to the Fado museum where the driver will pick you up again and lets you off at one of the drop off points as the end of the tour.
Elisabeth was a very nice and knowledgable guide, Thiago a very good driver.
I fully enjoyed the tour.

This day tour of Lisbon was absolutely PERFECT in every way!! Miguel of CoolTours Lisbon was both knowledgeable and passionate about the city's history, culture, and food too. He took us to a local place for lunch and we sampled the original pastry the country is known for. We highly recommend this company and guide whose English is excellent.
