Why Travelers Choose This Tour

A cost-effective option, this is one of the few non-private tours to visit Óbidos, Batalha, Nazaré, and Fátima.
After hotel pickup in Lisbon, you’ll greet your guide and hop into your air-conditioned coach. On arrival in Óbidos — a walled medieval town replete with maze-like streets and historical houses — you’ll have free time to enjoy the town's Gothic architecture.

Then, either unwind at a café or head to one of the abundant wine shops to taste a classic Ginja liqueur. Continue in your coach to Alcobaça to see the UNESCO World Heritage-listed Monastery of Santa Maria d'Alcobaça, the largest gothic monastery in Portugal.

Afterward, take a break for lunch in Nazaré — a quaint fishing village — and enjoy classic Portuguese dishes before exploring the popular Portuguese vacation spot. Here, you’ll absorb panoramic views of Portugal’s rugged Atlantic coastline and capture numerous photographs.

Head next to the village of Batalha, home to the UNESCO-listed Batalha Monastery; step inside this classic gothic building and admire its elegant design and ornate stained-glass windows.

Your last highlight is a visit to Fátima, famous for the 1917 sighting of the Virgin Mary by three agrarian children. Every year, Fátima plays host to millions of Christian pilgrims who pay homage at the Sanctuary of Fátima, also known as Our Lady of Fátima (Nossa Senhora de Fátima). You’ll have the opportunity to explore the basilica and shrine that honors the Virgin Mary independently.

A pilgrimage with views

It Started really well, Obidos was amazing and Nazare had some beautiful views of the coastline. I wouldn't recommend this tour for everyone as the greater portion of the locations features very heavily on the Catholic heritage of Portugal. If that portion doesn't interest you then you may be better with a half day tour. That being said, Fatima had a particularly strong spiritual gravitas.

Must do in Lisbon

I loved this trip. Monica was such a good guide; I really appreciated her positive energy and smile. She gave good advice on what to do for the rest of our time in Lisbon. The sites are a good mix-a medieval town, a beachfront for lunch, a gothic monastery and a Catholic sanctuary. All very interesting, you could see history progress on this trip.

This tour was wonderful.. Growing up as a Catholic, the story of Fatima is very important to me and the tour offered everything I wanted. The other stops were also fun and informative.

Good itinerary, terrible guide

We took this tour on September 18. It is a full day, and the sites are interesting. The lunch stop is Nazare and there are lots of dining options, so we opted not to do the included lunch and were glad we did. The problem with the tour is it was a mixed Spanish/English language group, and the young guide lost control of six Spanish tourists - a couple and four women, all in their late 50s-early 60s -- who simply decided that the departure times did not apply to them and progressively got worse at each of the last three stops. Not only did the guide fail to bring them into line, she spent most of her time happily chatting with them. In the end, we departed Fatima, the last stop, about 45 minutes past the expected time. To make matters worse, the departure had required everyone to make it to the bus at Marques de Pombal. We assumed we would go directly there. Instead, it was the last stop (where 60% of the bus got off) after a 50 minute bus jaunt through downtown Lisbon dropping off some tour members at their hotel -- including some of the Spanish members who were responsible for the later departure. We got back to our hotel at nine - almost 2 hours after the "expected" arrival. As I said, great itinerary, but hopeless guide. You have other options than Cityrama tours in Lisbon and I highly recommend you choose accordingly.

This was a great experience!

This tour was very interesting especially if you have limited time to explore this part of Portugal. I liked all the places we visited including Alcobaça. Our guide Louisa, explained very well in English, Portuguese and French. Worth visiting.

Disorganized!

I like all the places we visited but I was under the impression, based on the description, that we will be visiting Óbidos first and Fátima last, which is the main reason I booked this trip and not the others similar to it as those tours were starting off at Fátima. It's possible that they changed the order of the trip since we went there on May 12 and they were expecting more Fátima pilgrims to be around later in the day. I would have appreciated a heads up. If it hadn't been for the wonderful places included in this tour, I would have given it a "Terrible" rating. Disorganized is an understatement for this trip. We were asked to stand in line at the meet up point for awhile before we were able to get on the bus. After a few minutes, they asked all the Portuguese-speaking people to get off the bus and transfer as the group is too big (they couldn't have worked this out from the roster beforehand?). Isabel, our tour guide, was so underwhelming. She was soft-spoken and taking in monotone, mostly in Spanish. After the lunch stop at Nazare, she did not give us a clear instruction as to where our meeting point was going to be. Most of us ended up wandering about under the sun (it was 34C that day), unaware where the meeting point is and when the bus is coming. The only saving grace is that they dropped everyone off at their hotel/preferred drop off point. I recommend doing this trip but under another company.

The trip is good, but the guide is not very good, only explained on the bus, and then we just tour by ourselves

We were very disappointed with this...

We were very disappointed with this tour. Firstly it implied a smaller group than it was. Instead of just an English group we were combined with a French Spanish and Portuguesas group. The tour guide spent her time focussed on the Portuguese speaking group and when walking us to a site did not take time to ensure everyone was able to see where she was going. At one stop even though she counted us twice she almost left one tourist behind. Finally, because of the lack of efficiency by the company we did not leave at 9:00 and therefore we were rushed through the sites in order to get back at the scheduled time. While I would recommend seeing these places I would definitely look for a different tour company.
