Overview

This private 3-hour food tour of Lisbon ensures you’ll feast on the best food that Portugal’s capital has to offer. Your gastronome guide handpicks eateries in which to sample eight Portuguese specialties and two traditional drinks: pleasure your palate with delicacies such as grilled sardines, locally made cheese, Alheira sausage, and ‘pastel de nata’ (custard tart). During the journey between eateries, you’ll enjoy panoramic city vistas and explore Alfama, Lisbon’s oldest neighborhood. Your private tour can be tailored to suit dietary requirements and preferences.

  • Private 3-hour food tour of Lisbon
  • Feast on eight Portuguese delicacies and two drinks handpicked by a local food lover
  • Explore the historic district of Alfama and enjoy panoramic city veiws from Miradouro de Sta Catarina
  • Sample specialties such as pastel de nata, grilled sardines, and Ginjinha liquor
  • Customize the tour's itinerary according to dietary requirements and culinary preferences

Your tour begins at the Miradouro Sao de Alcantara viewpoint, located on the Rua São Pedro de Alcântara. Here, you’ll greet your private guide, absorb panoramic city vistas, and receive an overview of Lisbon’s thriving culinary scene.

Over the course of three hours, you’ll sample foods typical of Portuguese cuisine: awaken your taste buds with alheira, a Portuguese sausage traditionally made with veal or duck, and then sample moelas (gizzards) and locally produced beer.

The next samples come in the form of bifana, a sandwich filled with spicy, slow-cooked pork, and Portuguese snails cooked according to an age-old recipe. Proceed to the oldest Ginjinha shop in the city to try liquor made from sour cherries, and then delight in local cheese, grilled sardines, and pastel de bacalhau (cod croquettes).

Throughout the tour, your guide provides commentary that links Portuguese culture with its cuisine, and explains the origin of traditional dishes. Your final stop is in the historic Alfama district, where you’ll take a seat on a terrace to eat the ultimate sweet treat, a pastel de nata.

Ana Paula was a wonderful guide. Wear comfortable shoes and be ready for a lot of walking! Plenty of small dishes and drinks to make for a full dinner. Come hungry. This was a great introduction to Portuguese food and drink, but don't hesitate to try other full dishes on your stay such as grilled chicken and grilled fish.

Fabulous tour! It's a private tour with the guide. Sophia showed us so much of Lisbon, even taking us to some churches. The food is good, especially the pastel de nata, of course, from Manteigaria. It was divine! She also gave us some directions on where to buy tiles and some local art. She was wonderful!

While we ate some great food and saw a good deal of the city, I was expecting more from this tour. Our guide Sofia forgot our tour was happening so we started late and then besides a few general facts, she did not spend much time explaining what we were seeing, eating, or why we were visiting each location.

Excellent tour! Silvia the tour guide was all you could wish for - attentive to details, very good English, good selection of tapas and wine places, tons of interesting information, willing to customize the tour! She provided me with lots of historical information and even helped me select CDs with local fado music!

Silvia is definitely one of the best tour guides I've ever met in my travels around the world!

Rita was excellent. We started with the pastiche de Nata - fab, then to a pork sandwich place voted the best in Lisbon, then a plaza cafe in one of the main squares, various other stops and ended with Gingigha and more savoury bites. She was really knowledgeable and tailored it to us. e even gave her the added challenge of finding us a booking for new years eve for dinner, she gave us lots of places to try - all booked unsurprisingly but manged to try one of them the day after. Would definitely recommend and know they tailor the food to suit preferences.
