Near Sintra you must experience one of Portugal’s Seven Wonders, the spectacular Pena Palace standing atop a hillside. With a guide discover fascinating stories about this palace and Portuguese history in general. You will also visit the lovely beach town of Cascais and admire picturesque views in Cabo da Roca, the westernmost extent of continental Europe.
  • Half-day tour to Sintra and Cascais from Lisbon
  • Take a guided tour of the gorgeous Pena Palace (Palácio da Pena)
  • Enjoy the beauty of the fairytale town of Sintra
  • Stop for a photo op at Cabo da Roca, the westernmost point of mainland Europe
  • Breathe in the fresh sea air on a beach in Cascais
  • Entrance fee to Pena Palace included
Meet your guide in central Lisbon at Comercio Square (Praça do Comércio) for your Sintra, Pena Palace (Palácio da Pena), and Cascais half-day tour. Journey west to the UNESCO World Heritage Site Sintra, a storybook town situated in the foothills of the Sintra Mountains. Arrive and head to the opulent Pena Palace for a 1.5-hour walking tour.

See the eclectic architectural styles of this 19th century Romanticist palace and learn how it served as a monastery and summer residence to Portuguese royalty. Absorb the ambiance of the ballroom where nobles courted one another and explore luxurious rooms filled with fine Edwardian and Victorian furniture. Then, grab a glimpse of beautiful artwork in the Arab Room before you walk the stately grounds of Pena Park to see an assortment of exotic plants and trees.

Leave the palace and enjoy a half hour on you own to spend strolling the fairytale town of Sintra. Perhaps relax at a cafe for a tasty coffee and local treats like “queijadas de Sintra” or “travesseiros.” Or visit Sintra National Palace (Palácio da Vila), presently a historic house museum (own expense).

Next, head to the westernmost point in Europe, Cabo da Roca (March to October only). Treasure views of waves crashing into the majestic cliffside and granite boulders. Relax for a 20-minute break snapping perfect panoramic photos and stellar selfies!

Your final stop is the coastal town of Cascais, a former getaway of Portugal’s royal family in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Spend 10 minutes combing the pretty quaint beaches before pocketing your camera and heading back to Lisbon where your tour ends.

Had really awesome time with our tour guide Katrina and driver Louis. Very knowledgeable, lots of good facts to remember; Pena Palace was outstanding, def MUST SEE. Wish we had a mini stop in Cascais to enjoy beachside.

The castle was amazing. Too little time in the city of Sintra. The rest of the trip was just filler. The guide never smiled! A three hour trip to Sintra would have been much better.

Sintra, Pena Palace and Cascais Half-Day Trip from Lisbon

The tour guide was ok, but as she was speaking in three languages (at least...) in row - the information was really limited to necessary one, I would like to say - even not enought information. Dedicated time at Caba da Roca (20 min) is too short.

Informative Tour

I really enjoyed this tour. The scenery on the way to Pena Palace was beautiful. The tour guide did a good job informing everyone of its history, inside and out. My only criticism is she was talking to the us in three different languages, which had to be difficult. So she had to cram in a lot of information each time. I realize that Viator does this in order to fill the bus, so to speak, and make more profit. However, at times the different languages running one after the other, was confusing and left little time for visitors to ask questions because the guide was rattling off so much information in a short amount of time. You had to pay very close attention or you would miss her comments.

Great trip to a wonderful palace. Cascais seemed to be an after thought when I mentioned we were to go there.

Our Tour to Sintra, Pena Palace and Cascais was just good. a little disorganized, a lot of misunderstanding guides, the radio didn't work so well, and the end some people didn't get to the reunion point and we needed to wait for them for least than 20 min for that reason we didn't have the time to visit Sintra and Cascais really well. May be next time we'll choose for a small group tour for this trip.

We were taken to Sintra in a big tour bus that left from Praça do Comércio in Lisbon. The company requires the ticket bar code supplied by VIATOR, so please make sure to bring it with you we had a minor set back with this. The Pena Palace is at the top of a very high hill and is quite charming. After visiting the palace, you have time to walk around town and have a coffee or maybe some ginjha at your expense. We left Sintra and headed to Cabo da Roca, but the weather did not permit to walk around. Cascais was our last stop, not more than 10 minutes, to stretch your legs and enjoy the view. The tour ends in Praça do Comércio.

Our tour guide was amazing my husband left his expensive camera in Sintra, and our tour guide went with him and made sure we got it back. We really appreciated that!
