Sintra and Cascais Small-Group Day Trip from Lisbon

Sintra and Cascais Small-Group Day Trip from Lisbon

Meet your guide in central Lisbon for a memorable small-group guided day trip to Sintra and Cascais. Hop aboard your air-conditioned minivan and travel to Sintra. First stop at Pena Park and see the diversity of plants and trees line the beautiful trails. Then, voyage to a spectacular vantage point of Pena National Palace (Palacio da Pena) and the Atlantic Ocean from Queen's Throne.

Continue to Pena National Palace, the most famous of Sintra’s monuments, located at the top of Sintra Mountain. Enjoy this 19th-century Romanticist castle that looks and feels like a fairy tale. Admire its eclectic Neo-Manueline, Neo-Gothic and Neo-Renaissance styles as you head inside. Observe the extravagant bedrooms that used to serve as a summer residence for the royal family.

Depart the palace and stroll with your guide to the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Sintra. Spend some free time to have lunch or discover the town’s forested palaces like Sintra National Palace, a medieval royal palace occupied from the 15th to 19th centuries (own expense). Check out the local fare with tastes of aqueijada or travesseiro, two scrumptious and traditional pastries.

Meet back with your guide and travel to Sintra Natural Park. Along the way, pass by Seteais Palace, Quinta da Regaleira and the Palace of Monserrate. Then, whip out your camera for great photos at the rocky bluffs of Roca Cape (Cabo da Roca), Europe’s westernmost point. Briefly, visit Guincho Beach where surfers shred the gnar and then cruise by Hell’s Mouth (Boca do Inferno). Finally, make your way to Cascais’ bay for a walk.

In the former fishing town of Cascais, peruse the narrow streets of this trendy vacation getaway with your guide. Check out classic white, terracotta-roofed houses as you make your way to the beach. Then, bask in the sun as you tuck your toes into the golden sands and gaze over the expansive Atlantic Ocean.

Along the journey back to central Lisbon, where your tour concludes, enjoy pristine views of the scenic town of Estoril.

Really a wonderful way to spend a relaxing day in Portugal. Our guide was Filipa who was very enthusiastic and had great energy - she really added to the experience. You will get to see various styles of Portuguese art and architecture and learn a great deal about the history, as well as enjoy some time at the beach.

We could not have covered it all on our own. Great way to sightsee in a small group with good guide and transport. Had a wonderful day and recommend it.

I would highly recommend this day trip. It's a chance to get out of the city and see the surrounding countryside. Our guide, Gonzalo, was excellent! Don't miss the Pena palace- amazing. Cascais has excellent seafood and views. This is a must do for anyone visiting Lisbon.

Great tour! Filipa was very nice and friendly, and very tall haha, and I learned a lot from her. Pena Palace was peaceful, Cascais was charming, and the highlight of this trip was Cabo da Roca, with its beautiful waves violently smashing against those giant rocks. Highly recommended!

We were a bit skeptical about booking this tour as we enjoy walking around exploring in our own time, but with such a short amount of time in Lisbon we decided this would be the best way to see both Sintra and Casicais and were not disappointed. João was a great guide, very friendly, interesting and informative on a wide variety of topics. Despite the weather we had a great day! Be sure to take comfy shoes and remember that it might be a bit colder than in central Lisbon.

This was a really great tour. Small size, knowledgeable guide, fabulous photo ops. However, I didn't think the stop in Cascais was that great - would sign up for the all day Sintra tour with the same company if I did it again. Sintra was amazing!
