Meet your guide in central Lisbon for a memorable small-group guided day trip to Sintra and Cascais. Hop aboard your air-conditioned minivan and travel to Sintra. First stop at Pena Park and see the diversity of plants and trees line the beautiful trails. Then, voyage to a spectacular vantage point of Pena National Palace (Palacio da Pena) and the Atlantic Ocean from Queen's Throne.

Continue to Pena National Palace, the most famous of Sintra’s monuments, located at the top of Sintra Mountain. Enjoy this 19th-century Romanticist castle that looks and feels like a fairy tale. Admire its eclectic Neo-Manueline, Neo-Gothic and Neo-Renaissance styles as you head inside. Observe the extravagant bedrooms that used to serve as a summer residence for the royal family.

Depart the palace and stroll with your guide to the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Sintra. Spend some free time to have lunch or discover the town’s forested palaces like Sintra National Palace, a medieval royal palace occupied from the 15th to 19th centuries (own expense). Check out the local fare with tastes of aqueijada or travesseiro, two scrumptious and traditional pastries.

Meet back with your guide and travel to Sintra Natural Park. Along the way, pass by Seteais Palace, Quinta da Regaleira and the Palace of Monserrate. Then, whip out your camera for great photos at the rocky bluffs of Roca Cape (Cabo da Roca), Europe’s westernmost point. Briefly, visit Guincho Beach where surfers shred the gnar and then cruise by Hell’s Mouth (Boca do Inferno). Finally, make your way to Cascais’ bay for a walk.

In the former fishing town of Cascais, peruse the narrow streets of this trendy vacation getaway with your guide. Check out classic white, terracotta-roofed houses as you make your way to the beach. Then, bask in the sun as you tuck your toes into the golden sands and gaze over the expansive Atlantic Ocean.

Along the journey back to central Lisbon, where your tour concludes, enjoy pristine views of the scenic town of Estoril.

We had a very informative, professional guide Richard. He kept explaining key facts, not just about the places we stopped but also about every notable landmark/ historical site/ village we drove by. He was also able to answer many questions raised by the tour participants. Sintra was a very touristy town, but worth the visit. I wished we had another 20 minutes there so I could spend a quality time at Quinta da Regaleira, which was unfortunately not part of the itinerary so I made a quick visit during our free time in Sintra village. Quinta da Regaleira is a palace with gorgeous garden on a tree-covered hillside comprising romantic turrets, spiral stone stairs, natural springs and caves. Cascais was a nice seaside town full of fancy cafes and gift shops, but I felt 1hr there was a bit too long - could have cut 20 mins there and added it to the free time in Sintra...just a suggestion! Overall the tour was very enjoyable.

It was a great day with our guide Nuno. He was insightful and interesting and we got to take in all the cool sights while getting a unique feel for the places we visited. The day was very balanced and we felt well taken care of. He went out of his way to make the experience a memorable one. Go!

Our guide, Maria, was excellent. She provided entertaining background and history both along the way and at each venue. And she was a great driver. There was ample time at each site to sightsee, shop, and/or sample the local cuisine. Pena Palace and Cabo da Roca were particularly good. Highly recommended day trip.

We had Joao as our guIde. He is - no doubt - on the very top of guides we have EVER met on similar excursions. He was helpful, polite, knowledgeable and a person with a great sense of humour. Most of the group had a very pleasant lunch with him in a popular Sintra restaurant. So, if you are placed into his group, you can congratulate yourself! We arrived at Pena National Palace early enough to avoid queuing. However, you must be prepared for uphill-walking to reach the Palace. In the Palace you must follow a predefined route but it allows you to admire the interiors and magnificent sceneries from the windows and the terraces of the palace. After Sintra we headed to Roca Cape, with its windy but mighty sceneries. The third destination was Cascais, but unfortunately on the day of our visit, the Ironman competition was arranged in Cascais, and this caused a traffic jam and arrangements, which made normal routes impossible. This also caused that our 8 hour trip lasted almost 10 hours, which created a need to pospone our dinner reservation - but it succeeded.

Our trip was thoroughly enjoyable from start to finish. We met out 8 person group and despite a taxi strike causing some street closures, we departed on time. We lucked out with our gem of a guide, Nuno from Inside Tours. He was extremely knowlegable and his English was perfect. He kept us informed during the entire trip. The Pena Palace is beautiful, with it's distinctive architechture and views. Our 1 hour stop in Sintra was just long enough to see the sights and have lunch. The drive along the coast to Cabo da Roca was beautiful as were the views from the most westerly point in continental Europe. Next stop Cascais a beautiful little beach town. Again just enough time to stroll along the beach and have some gelato. It was a long day, but there were enough stops to break it up. We would highly recommend this day trip and hope you are lucky enough to have Nuno as your guide.

Joana was a wonderful tour guide. She guided our small group for a full day and did an excellent job. She gave us historical background information and interesting tips. She is knowledgable, friendly, engaging and a great driver!

My husband I signed up for this tour not knowing much about Sintra. The town is cute and the wooded area en route to the palace was quite beautiful. The guide was perfectly fine. What I didn't expect was the number of people who were attempting to visit the Pena Palace. The line to get into the palace was very long and then once you're in, you really can't leave because the line just pushes you along in a very slow manner. If I could have left in the middle of the visit and just sat outside, I would have. The tour of the palace was not even remotely enjoyable. The rest of the tour was fine and I did enjoy Cascais.

Amazing tour, Sintra and Cascais are a must visit when in Lisbon!

This tour was perfect to visit two sites in one day. More importantly it eliminated the logistical nightmare that would have been any attempt to visit Sintra on our own. Plus we got Cascais thrown in for good measure. The tour guide Miguel was knowledgeable, efficient and seemed genuinely concerned that we have a good time. There was a decent amount of time to do your own thing at both places. I would recommend this tour.

Worth twice what they're charging, but don't tell them. Fantastic all around. Great small group, only eight of us, our guide Diogo knew everything about the tour, Portugal, and life in general! The Palace is a fantasy, and the other places we visited were exceptional. If I could give them six stars I would.
