What To Expect

Meet your guide in central Lisbon for a memorable small-group guided day trip to Sintra and Cascais. Hop aboard your air-conditioned minivan and travel to Sintra. First, stop at Pena Park and see the diversity of plants and trees line the beautiful trails. Then, voyage to a spectacular vantage point of the colorful Pena National Palace (Palacio da Pena).

Continue to Pena National Palace, the most famous of Sintra’s monuments, located at the top of Sintra Mountain. Enjoy this 19th-century Romanticist castle that looks and feels like a fairy tale. Admire its eclectic Neo-Manueline, Neo-Gothic and Neo-Renaissance styles as you head inside. Observe the extravagant bedrooms that used to serve as a summer residence for the royal family.

Depart the palace and stroll with your guide to the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Sintra. Spend some free time to have lunch or discover the town’s forested palaces like Sintra National Palace, a medieval royal palace occupied from the 15th to 19th centuries (own expense). Check out the local fare with tastes of aqueijada or travesseiro, two scrumptious and traditional pastries.

Meet back at your coach and travel past Quinta da Regaleira and the Palace of Monserrate on the way to Roca Cape (Cabo da Roca). Then, whip out your camera for great photos at the rocky bluffs which are Europe’s westernmost point. Briefly, visit Guincho Beach where surfers shred the gnar and then cruise by Hell’s Mouth (Boca do Inferno). Finally, make your way to Cascais’ bay for a walk.

In the former fishing town of Cascais, peruse the narrow streets of this trendy vacation getaway with your guide. Check out classic white, terracotta-roofed houses as you make your way to the beach. Then, bask in the sun as you tuck your toes into the golden sands and gaze over the expansive Atlantic Ocean.

Along the journey back to central Lisbon, where your tour concludes, enjoy pristine views of the scenic town of Estoril.

Park and National Palace of Pena

Start your tour with the journey to Sintra. Visit Pena Park, where you will be amazed by the variety of trails, trees and other plants. Next, feel like Portuguese royalty as you enter the romantic Pena National Palace at the top of Sintra Mountain. See the Great Triton, the guardian of the palace, inspired by Manueline art. Inside the palace, admire the attention to detail in the bedrooms of the king and queen and the Arab Room.

2 hours Admission Ticket Included

Centro Historico de Sintra

Leave the palace and follow your guide to the historical center of Sintra, where you’ll have free time to explore the town, to visit Sintra National Palace (where the Portuguese royalty of the 15th and 16th centuries used to spend the summer months) or have some lunch (own expense). For dessert, try a travesseiro or a queijada, two delicious local pastries.

Traveler Tips

Traffic and crowds were huge so be prepared to wait.
As there is a fair bit of hilly walking I would not recommend this trip for the elderly or those who have limited mobility
I would say you should dress for walking or hiking as the hills in Sintra are pretty steep and the walks are long.

The best tour in Lisbon
dodomitrovic, Jun 2022
The tour was absolutely fantastic. Not only the places we visited were magnificent, but also our guide Rui was the best. He was able to explain to us the history of all the places we visited. In addition, he was always kind and gentle and very funny.
Great experience!
Elisa_B, Jun 2022
Our tour guide/driver Natalia was fantastic- enthusiastic about sharing their love of Portugal with others. We learned a lot about the history of Portugal and were able to see & fully experience the places we visited that day. The small group setting was perfect- got to know a few other travelers.
Pena Palace Shuttle
Rosalinda_M, Jun 2022
Take the shuttle in Pena Palace for 3 euros round trip, if you want to avoid uphill and downhill walking from parking to main palace entrance .
Great tour and great guide
Alyssa_D, Jun 2022
Alberto was the best tour guide. He was always smiling and seemed happy to be there with us. He went out of his way for us too. This tour was just perfect. We did so much and saw so many beautiful parts of Portugal. We would recommend this tour to anyone!

Thoroughly enjoyable tour!
Jonathan_G, Jun 2022
Our guide “Ze” did an excellent job! He provided useful and interesting information on the way to each of our stops and then gave us enough free time to explore them. He kept our group happy and on schedule throughout the day. I’m so happy we booked this tour and will highly recommend it to others!
Lovely Day—Highly Recommend
Allison_H, Jun 2022
Our trip was lovely—our guide Alexandre was helpful, knowledgeable, and fun to be around! We were in a group of 8 total and it was the perfect size for the day. It was a good balance of free time and guided and would definitely suggest this to anyone! Tips for anyone else booking—the final walk up to the Peña Palace is a little steep so wear comfortable shoes. Bring a jacket (I had a rain jacket) because it’s much cooler up there than down in Sintra or in Lisbon.
Will totally recommend to anyone going to Lisbon

A Great trip to Sintra
Arthur_E, Jun 2022
We had a great day, starting with a tour of the Sintra castle. We then we given time to walk around the village, before heading to the westernmost point in Europe, where were able to stop and enjoy the scenery. The next stop was the beach town of Cascáis, when we had time to walk around the town and have lunch. Our guide was fantastic.

Informative Sintra
Kenneth_H, Jun 2022
The guide was willing to engage in conversation outside of his narrative. He was very personable and accommodating.
Exuberant driver provides great day of touring in Portugal!
Jana_L, Jun 2022
Our driver/true guy was so much fun, outgoing, and knowledgeable. We love the town so we visited. The only thing we would’ve preferred what’s the spend a little less time at the castle, and more time in the town of Sintra and the town of Cais Cais. I didn’t that it was the perfect day!

Beautiful must do, go early!
Daniel_S, Jun 2022
Our guide was Carla. We loved the trip! Carla was more than just a "van driver", she provided a ton of history and answered all our questions. She got us to the palace early, helped us avoid crowds, and generally made sure we had a great time. I would advise checked the weather before you go since it's different from Lisbon, it's a microclimate.

The pena palace was nice and our guide was very helpful. She even consulted with her colleagues to recommend a good restaurant in Lisbon, which we enjoyed immensely.
