Excellent tour! We had a great time. The guide was very knowledgeable and gave us a lot of history and fascinating facts about the Templers and the Convent of Christ. There was a lot to see at the Convent. It was a full day, including a very delicious lunch at a local restaurant. We also enjoyed seeing Almourol Castle, walking on the and climbing up the tower.
Very interesting about the Knights and what they have build and our currant banking system is based on their ideas.
The castle is very old and the walk ways need to be improved for walking. However it is only opened in the last 4 years and it will take time to develop the area. We took a small boat to get to the island.......
The guide was so nice and friendly..... loved him...

Really loved this tour. We didnt know that much about the Knights Templar, but this tour really educated us and had the cool factor as well! The communication and pick up with the local operator was excellent. Guide was great. Love the small tours!
Very interesting, informative and enjoyable. The castles and church, the boat ride and the road trip, the Guide and the lunch - all were excellent.
Loved this tour! Really enjoyed our guides and the history they shared of each location.
Superb knowledge from our tour guide into the life of the Knights Templar. If one is into history and the beauty of the surrounding countryside, this is a day trip one must take outside of Lisbon.
Passeio obrigatório para quem visita Portugal. O pessoal da CoolTour foi muito atencioso e o nosso guia respondeu prontamente a todas as perguntas.
Great tour. The guide was wonderful friendly caring and incredibly knowledgeable
What a great day out of the busy city to see the other parts of the country. I highly recommend taking this tour if you have more than a couple days in Lisbon. We took 2 all day tours out of the city and are so happy we did. Seeing the country side and beach areas were so nice. The small group tour was perfect for the day. The guide was so knowledgeable. You could tell they really like their country and are proud to show it off. I highly recommend taking day tours out of the city. There is so much more of the country side and beaches to see out of Lisbon.
What a great and interesting tour. Throughly enjoyed the history and locations we visited. A big plus for this one. DO IT......
Absolutely LOVED this trip.. just amazing! Amazing history, amazing architecture - just amazing..
Very knowledgeable personable guide. Well paced tour. Saw several Templar castles, churches, towns as well as Portugals oldest existing synagogue. Highly recommended. One of the best day trips ever.
Excellent tour! Our guide, Michaela, was knowledgeable and professionally passionate about the history of the Templars in Portugal. The places visited can transport you back in time. High temperatures and lots of climbing, along with uneven surfaces, make this a moderate-strenuous adventure, but its well worth the effort.
This was one of my favorite tours ever! I learned so much from the tour guide and totally enjoyed the day. There were only 3 of us on the tour and I had a front seat so I could ask as many questions along the way as came to mind. It was wonderful! The meal - the drinks prior to the little island castle - the church with the Grand Master's names - priceless.
I was travelling solo and picked this tour as a way to see some of Portugal. This tour delivered. It took us outside Lisbon and out into the country. The first castle was Almoural and required a short boat ride. After learning about the history, there was time to roam around. Close to the dock and parking lot is a small shop for coffee and pastry.
Then it was on to Constancia, along the way we stopped for a small pastry, wonderful. Then we visited Castle Tomar, I really enjoyed the time we had to wander around. A very beautiful castle.
This was a small group tour, that made it very enjoyable, we had a wonderful young lady as our tour guide.
Every bit as unique and interesting as I expected! It is an all-day experience, with a trip by minivan to several sites far from the city. The size of the group 7 makes it easy to keep everyone together and present the information. A real joy for those who love history! The guide was excellent.
The Knights Templar Historical tour was excellent. It was very nice being picked up at our apartment in Lisbon by our guide Patricia and she was an outstanding guide pleasant, fun, patient, knowledgeable. Her descriptions of the Templars and of the history of Portugal in general greatly enhanced our experience. Almoural Castle on the Tagus River was particularly charming and beautiful, and the Covent of Christ in Tomar was extraordinary. We highly recommend this tour.
One of the nice things about this tour is that you really were able to get inside the various structures monastery rather than look at things from the opposite side of a retaining rope! I also learned a few things about the Templars that I had not known prior!
We took the Small-Group Tour: Knights Templar Historical Tour from Lisbon from Cool tours through Viator. We were 8 people with Patricia our tour guide in a minivan and our 1st destination was Castelo de Almourol. That day there were no tourists except us. The castle is located on an island and you would need a few minutes to reach it by boat. Once there you have some stairs to climb and a small path to follow. It offers nice views of the river and is fun to explore Rating 5/5.
Next, Patricia took us to Constância for a short visit to taste a snack called Cheese from Heaven. We loved it Rating 5/5.
After this break, we went for our lunch in Tomar to a restaurant called Infante. We took the Grilled pork which was so good. The service was somewhat ok though a bit slow but still friendly. The prices were good and above fair for what you were getting Rating 4/5.
Our next stop on the tour was the Convento de Cristo which is a beautiful and unique landmark and it is considered a UNESCO world heritage site. The architecture is such a delight to enjoy and discover. There are some great views from the balcony roof. The cathedral section is breathtaking and to see how the monks lived there is an interesting experience. Rating 5/5
And out last stop was the church of Santa Maria do Olival which is a Roman Catholic Church built in the 12th century which has 22 Templar Knights who were buried there. The visit is interesting and this church is related to the convent. It is modest but yet has its own beauty. Rating 4/5
Overall, Patricia was professional and friendly and the tour is highly recommended. It is about 9 hours in length.
I simply LOVED this tour! Michaela was such a great guide! She knows her medieval history and gave us as thorough of a lesson as time permitted on the drive to our first destination. All of her insights, comments, references were so informative and completely enriched my experience on this tour. Even our guide-in-training, Elizabeth Elisabeth, was very sweet and offered some mini historical accounts at two landmarks. I had so much fun on this tour and consider it to be my absolute favorite during my time in Lisbon I went on 4 tours total. I would so do this again and so highly recommend it!
Good communication before the trip, pickup was on time.
Carlos our driver and guide could not have been more informative and helpful, kept our interest throughout the trip with just the right amount for information. He even got us back to the drop off point on time in spite of Lisbon centre being closed down for the Benfica match.
We would highly recommend this tour for anyone with an interest in this period of Portugese history.
