What You Can Expect

Ljubljana Walking Tour with Ljubljana Castle Funicular Ride

Ljubljana Walking Tour

Meet your expert guide in the morning in the center of Ljubljana, at the stunning Baroque-era Town Hall. After an introduction, set off with your guide and the rest of the group for a day of exploring this charming and walkable city. Listen as your expert guide illuminates the sights with insightful history and commentary throughout the day.

Visit the bustling stalls offering local produce and bounties of flowers near the Cathedral of St Nicholas, as your guide informs you about Slovenia’s rich agricultural culture. Stroll over the Art Nouveau Dragon Bridge, named and modeled after the city’s mascot, the dragon. Continue along the river, to Prešernov trg Square, after which you’ll traverse the Triple Bridge, created by famed architect Jože Plečnik.
You will also stop at a traditional restaurant and sample Slovenian food.

Next up, you’ll encounter Ribji trg Square. Here, you’ll learn about the city’s oldest architecture from your guide before continuing on to Old Town. Admire more Baroque facades as you walk through more popular squares taking a break in Novi trg Square, just after the Cobblers’ Bridge.

Pause at other local points of interest, like Church of the Knights of the Cross and Jože Plečnik's Križanke Summer Theatre. Cruise past the Roman ruin walls of Vegova ulica Street on your way to the tour’s crescendo: Ljubljana Castle. Soak in increasingly breathtaking views as ascend up the hill on a funicular ride. At the top, snap some photos of the skyline and choose if you want to go on an optional self-guided tour (additional expense). Make your way back down the hill in the funicular, to Krekov trg Square, where your tour ends.

This is the best way to learn about ljubljana! Literally not to bad with walking, mostly 2 hours max walking time. Started off at the square in front of the town hall, which was easy to walk to from my hotel. We started the tour learning about the general area, and the history of how ljubljana was founded. Learned about the various rivers in the area, and the settlements over time. At one point in the tour, you get to try sausage and some slovenian bread, which tasted very good, beware for gluten allergies, we had a few members not eat the bread, but were ok with sausage. After a fine dining experience, we made our way to a funicular, which literally a big big ski lift, modified to bring people up and down to the castle. Walking/Hiking the castle takes a bit close to an hour, the funicular cuts the time to 5 minutes max of standing to get to the top. Once at the top you will see the castle and enjoy the views. Shortly after you will have the oppurtunity to take pictures and make your way back down to the town hall and end your tour! Short, but informative, which helps you make your way throughout the city, especially if you like being out and about! You should do this tour to enjoy the street life and appreciation of the ljubljana culture! After the tour i went back to some of the stands we saw, and got some good BBQ as well as souvenirs for a cheap price. I noticed the stands were cheaper then going into stores, but the quality of the items in stores out weighed the price, so you choose what you prefer when shopping!

The guide knew so much and explained facts and curiosities about the city.
Evry worth it if you have little time to explore and interested in architecture. I really liked it and would highly recommend if you are visiting the city for the first time and want some history and culture.
You will walk a bit so bring comfy shoes and an umbrella is rain is likely since the tour guide has no extras to share with you

A great introduction to the capital, its history, architecture and cuisine. In case your are not sure if your cell phone roaming will work or not, take a printed map to make the group meeting place easier to find.

Wonderful way of getting to know the History of Ljubljana. Eslovenia's capital city center is not that big so you get to walk most of the old town and learn about its History. Highly recommended.
