The University City of Oxford and the idyllic countryside of The Cotswolds are two of the most popular day trips from London, but visiting on a large group tour can mean less time to explore. This full-day small-group tour ensures a personalized experience, with free time to admire Oxford landmarks like the Bridge of Sighs, Christchurch Cathedral, and the Ashmolean Museum, and visit the villages of Burford and Bibury.
Comprehensive tour in a top-of-the-range, 16-seat Mercedes mini-coach
Perfect introduction for first-time visitors
Small-group tour for a more personalized experience
Your first stop is Oxford, where you have time to explore the precincts of the many colleges, climb one of the vantage points to take in the skyline, or see the art and antiquities collections in the Ashmolean Museum. The choice is yours.
Ruined medieval manor house located on the banks of the River Windrush. Originally built by the Lovell family (the local landowners, who gave their name to the village)
Local legend tells of how Francis Lovell (the last of the family) went into hiding after the defeat of Richard III in 1485, allegedly in a secret chamber in the grounds of Minster Lovell Hall, the knowledge of his whereabouts known only by a faithful servant who unexpectedly died; skeletal remains, presumed to be Lovell’s, were discovered in the 1700s…
Our next stop is in Burford, the ‘Gateway to the Cotswolds’. It’s a small market town with enormous character and a huge history. The main street is lined with gorgeously quaint cottages and properties.
Finally, you make the short journey to Bibury, described by William Morris as the prettiest village in England, and the place that Henry T Ford wished to dismantle and ship back to the USA.
Here we have time to stroll past the famous and fairytale-like Arlington Row. After a full day exploring the city of Oxford and the villages of the Cotswolds we’ll embark on the comfortable return journey to London.
Luggage Allowance: You're restricted to 14kg (31lbs) of luggage per person on our tours. This should be one piece of luggage similar to an airline carry-on bag (approximately 55cm x 45cm x 25cm / 22in x 17in x 10in) plus a small bag for onboard personal items.

Fist time using Viator and would definitely recommend. Lovely small tour on a comfortable minibus. Graham our driver and information centre was excellent and friendly. We visited Bibury, Bradford and then Oxford. Bibury was beautiful for photos and a quick walk. Bradford has a gorgeous church and lovely shops with delicious cream tea. Oxford was amazing and spent the entire time sightseeing and exploring the city. Very reasonable priced tour. Thank you for a great day!
Let me just start by saying Graham was the best guide. He was very funny and make the long drive fun. The sites we breath taking and worth every penny. I was a tiny bit disappointed that we didn't stop in Bampton since it was one of the villages listed in the tour description. Other than that I would do this tour again and again. Even my husband who hates going on tours said that this was is favorite part of our trip.
Had a great time this weekend taking Rabbie's one-day Oxford and Cotswolds Villages trip!
John our driver was well informed and kept us entertained with local history, stories, jokes and music - also highlighting the do-not-miss places and treats like the local lardy cakes.
Was great to get out of London for the day off-season to see iconic places like Burford and Bibury in addition to driving through some of the smaller town. Last stop was Oxford, enough time to get a sense of it but really needs a dedicated day or more on its own.
All in all a fun day and would highly recommend.
Oxford and Traditional Cotswolds Villages Small-Group Day Tour from London
, Nov 2019
My wife and I have utilized Viator services many times in Europe over the years. We've always been very happy with the tours and tour guides. However, this trip had a bit too much windshield time & not enough boots on the ground time. The crowds at Oxford were over the top. The Harry Potter franchise has turned the place into Disneyland. The tour needed more time in the Cotswolds.
Very nice small group tour! The tour guide was great. He told nice stories, and informed of what we were seeing around us. But, also knew when to be silent and let us just enjoy the country side. I liked being dropped off in the towns to explore on our own, but also guidance on what to see. They day flew by. We got a lot in during the day. Getting out of London was easier than getting back in that evening. But, our experienced driver knew how to maneuver through the back roads of the city. It was a laid back tour, which is just what we wanted. I felt like we had enough time in each village. Most of the small villages were just for photo opportunities, which is really what this kind of tour is.
