Travel independently to The Rubens at the Palace Hotel in time for the serving of afternoon tea. The hotel is situated opposite the Royal Mews of Buckingham Palace, so it enjoys one of London’s most prestigious locations.

Make your way into the handsome 4-star hotel and admire the plush surroundings as you take your seat in the elegant Palace Lounge.

Then, simply relax and soak up the genteel atmosphere as you enjoy a traditional English afternoon tea, produced by the team at the hotel’s pastry kitchen. This highly skilled group of chefs are masters at making the most exquisite and freshest cakes and pastries, so you're in for a treat.

Enjoy an enticing selection of mouth-watering finger sandwiches and sweet cakes, accompanied by your choice from the range of sophisticated, freshly brewed teas, and all served at your table.

While the afternoon tea menu may vary, expect to savor such delights as freshly baked, fluffy scones with clotted cream, and sweet treats such as delectable carrot cupcakes and marshmallows. See the Itinerary below for a sample menu.

For younger guests, there’s the option of a Little Prince and Princess Tea (for children aged from five to 12), made up of tasty bite-size sandwiches, freshly baked scones and selected pastries accompanied by a tea, milkshake, hot chocolate or soda.

Your afternoon tea experience concludes when you finish your tea.

Paid extra for glass of champagne but the staff challenged it as even though the voucher stated afternoon tea with champagne, they focussed on the fact that it also stated optional champagne upgrade. I showed the amount that I had paid to assist my case but still I was told it was not the champagne afternoon tea. Found myself feeling uncomfortable as it was not my fault nor the staff's fault. Advertised as views of Buckingham Palace Mews but due to the hotel expecting bigger crowd, we were put in a different room with no view. Sandwiches, scones and cakes were amazing. The scones were warm and so moreish. The choice of tea was out of this world. Staff were really informative and helpful and guided us through the process.

Dear Thomas, Thank you very much for the time that you have taken to write a review. We are glad to hear that you enjoyed the scones and the tea however we are sorry to hear that you had a negative experience with the Champagne upgrade. Would you be able to send us your reservation number (to reservations@evanevanstours.co.uk) so that we can look into the wording of your ticket as we have double checked some recent bookings and it does seem clear but as we work with a number of different partners it is possible that not all of them are displaying the same information on their website so it would be great to have your feedback. We will also let the Rubens know about the issue that you had with the seating so that this does not happen again going forwards. Thank you again for your feedback and we look forward to hearing from you. Best wishes, Evan Evans Team

High Tea @ The Rubens

The tea was nice and the food was ok, was a little disappointed in the food given the price. We had a couple of sandwiches and cakes to share, i.e. there was only one of each type of cake. The scones with jam and cream were lovely however one of the scones was a chocolate choc chip which we didn't like (and I am a chocolate lover) we would have preferred just the plain scones.

Afternoon tea is the quintessential London experience. This one is located in an older hotel, thus the tea room was cozy and more traditional in feel. We were seated right by the window so that we could look out and see London passing by. The selection of teas was phenomenal I recommend the jasmine blossom and the scones were absolutely delicious. I went with my daughter and they had hot chocolate for her! We also got the traditional finger sandwiches as well as a selection of pastries. Overall, a great experience and a nice way to experience London.

It's nice to have tea exactly as the British do, and then nearby to Buckingham's. It's expensive though. The hotel is really nice and elegant, and the staff is very friendly and professional. The food is tasty, and the tea is excellent.
