What You Can Expect

Buckingham Palace Tour Including Changing of the Guard Ceremony and Afternoon Tea

Enjoy a traditional afternoon tea after your Buckingham Palace tour

Greet your guide at a central London location and take a picturesque stroll through St James’s Park to Buckingham Palace, the magnificent official residence of Her Majesty the Queen. Stop in a prime position either along The Mall, by Horse Guards Parade or in front of the palace to behold the Changing of the Guard, a colorful and traditional ceremony that combines vibrantly dressed soldiers and rhythmic drum beats.

Then, prepare to enter one of Britain’s most iconic cultural institutions. Listen to illuminating commentary from your guide as you stroll to the entrance of the regal residence, only open for two months of the year. Pop in your audio guide and embark on a fascinating discovery of the luxurious chambers; marvel at opulent accessories like suspended chandeliers, classic artworks and sumptuous furniture as you explore the gorgeous State Apartments.

When your tour of Buckingham Palace concludes, head to either Rubens at the Palace or St Ermin’s Hotel in Westminster to pleasure your palate to an enticing array known as afternoon tea. Indulge in this 18th-century tradition in the elegant surroundings of your hotel dining area and enjoy scones smothered with sweet preserves and thick clotted cream, and dainty finger sandwiches filled with fine ingredients.

Bid your guide farewell inside the hotel, where the tour concludes.

Please note: if there is heavy rain on the day of your tour, the Changing of the Guard ceremony will be replaced with a visit to the Guard’s Chapel.

Our guide I think his name was Philip took us to the changing of the guard at just the right spot to see everything and practically touch the guards. He talked all the while we were walking to tell us a lot of behind the scenes information. Buckingham Palace is beautiful but the tea was the highlight. Our guide was funny, informative and made the tour so much more that I expected.

This was definitely one of the highlights of our trip. Buckingham Palace is breathtaking, it is so beautiful and the display of the Queens clothing and hats was incredible. It was an unforgettable trip.

Even though it was raining , Gavin gave us a great tour. The changing of the guard was altered and expected because of the rain. This was explained to us in advance. The tea at the end of our tour was exceptional! Gavin answered all our questions and spent time with all of the individual tables at the tea. This was definitely a 5 star tour.

Augusta was a fabulous guide. She ensured we had 'front row' seats for the changing of the guards, helped us move quickly through lines and provided a lot of valuable information about the sights we were seeing and experiencing. I would highly recommend Viator and Augusta to ensure you see the best of Buckingham Palace, Changing of the Guard followed by an elegant afternoon tea!

Loved it, well worth the money just for the entry in to the Palace alone

The tour guide was excellent but walks a bit too fast! and it was a great thrill to be inside Buckingham Palace itself! The tea at St. Ermins was also lovelier than expected, all in all a very informative day. However, it is a LONG walk now to Tea from the Palace exit and several of us became quite ill afterwards from the heat. I'm not sure how this could be better handled, but at least ensuring we all had water would be a huge step.

We really enjoyed this tour. Even though it rained that day, our guide Augusta from City Wonders went out of her way to help us get great photos of the changing of the guard. She knew the spots for the best photos when it is raining. She was very informative and not boring. She took care of her group so nobody got left behind. We've taken a lot of tours from Viator, and this was one of the best.
