What You Can Expect

English Countryside Day Trip from London Including Windsor Castle

Explore the pretty riverside town of Marlow on your tour

Hop aboard your comfortable, air-conditioned minivan in central London and journey west into the English countryside to begin your tour.

As you travel, listen as your guide talks of the region’s long history, and hear fascinating facts about your first destination: the UNESCO-listed stone circle at Stonehenge. On arrival, head inside (additional cost) to stroll around the site and visitor center independently. View the gigantic, prehistoric monument, believed by most scholars to have formed a temple aligned to the sun; and explore the archaeological and audio-visual displays at the state-of-the-art center.

Back aboard your minivan, continue to Runnymede, the historical site of the sealing of the Magna Carta — the document that laid the foundations for modern democracy — by King John in 1215. Take in the views of the rural site beside the Thames River and see the imposing nearby Royal Air Forces Memorial.

Next, travel through glorious Windsor Great Park to the royal town of Windsor, prettily situated on the banks of the Thames. Here, stop to visit magnificent Windsor Castle (additional cost), still used as a weekend residence by Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.

Admire the opulent State Apartments, with their richly decorated halls and chambers, and depending on the day, watch the Changing of the Guard — a centuries-old ceremony that takes place at the 1,000-year-old castle on select dates.

Alternatively, follow your castle visit with a stroll along the Windsor and Eton Heritage Trail, a waymarked route that circles the castle walls and traces the Thames' banks. Or, if it's between April and October, perhaps enjoy a boat trip (additional cost) along the Thames to admire stellar views of Windsor Castle, Eton College and other landmarks.

When the time comes, leave Windsor by minivan and end your day trip at the start point in central London.

It was nice.
Time at sites was a bit tight. Could have been a bit longer!

We enjoyed this tour very much. Our driver was knowledgeable and courteous. However, I don't know how anyone would have had time to both tour Windsor Castle and do a river cruise on the Thames, as was noted in the tour description. We ate a quick lunch in Windsor and then had just enough time to tour the Castle. In the future I would skip Stonehenge and spend that time shopping near Windsor Castle there were so many interesting shops but we did not have time to visit them.

Windsor castle is magnificent and was well worth the ride, Our Guide was very good and very knowledgeable. The two small towns visited were quaint but not that impressive and only about a half hour was spent at each. Other cities may have been more interesting.

Loved the small coach we rode in and the special treatment Glenn our guide gave to us. Beautiful trip to countryside and towns. Glenn kept us quite entertained with his stories and music. Thanks Glenn for taking us around and adding your personal touch.

Far too much driving on the freeway. Stonehenge to me was disappointing as you could not get close to it and costs a lot of money to visit. Windsor Castle was awesome and a wonder, could have spent all day there. Include the cost of entry and then call it Windsor Castle tour ... entry included!!
