Descend into London’s dark history with an evening Jack the Ripper walking tour. Spend two hours exploring London’s East End with your informed guide. As you wind through the dark alleys of Whitechapel, learn the horrifying details of the 1888 killing-spree at the hand of this still unknown serial killer. Hear about the victims and theories on the suspects, then warm your chilled blood with a drink at Ten Bells pub, a key setting in the Jack the Ripper mystery.
If you're interested in learning about the suspects in the case of London's most notorious killer, this is the tour for you! See newspapers and other artifacts from the time of the gruesome murders.
As night falls on the city, meet your guide at Botolph's Church in Aldgate for a chilling 2-hour walking tour through the East End. Get an introduction to Whitechapel – Jack the Ripper’s hunting ground – and hear details of the world’s most infamous serial killer who remains unidentified after more than 125 years.
Pass pubs and locations where the Ripper’s victims frequented, and wind through the eerie warren of alleyways where the killer’s five victims were found by horrified Londoners. Along the way, examine original crime scene photos and newspaper clips offered by your guide. As you stop by the scene of each murder, hear stories about the key suspects and victims like Mary Jane Kelly and Elizabeth Strides, who were brutally assaulted with a surgical precision that baffled the authorities.
Your tour concludes at the historic Ten Bells pub, where victims Annie Chapman and Mary Jane Kelly may have been directly before their murders. Sip on a drink (own expense) as you conjecture and hypothesize about the Whitechapel murders with fellow history buffs and your guide. By the end of the tour, you’ll have a better understanding of the killings that shook the world, and continue to be the subject of intense curiosity and speculation!
We went on this tour on a cold December mid-week evening and so, the group was nice and small. Giles gave a very interesting and informative talk about Jack the Ripper around London's East End. The tour was just as much about Victorian East London in the late 1800s as Jack the Ripper, which was a bonus. London has changed significantly since the time of Jack the Ripper and although what were originally deprived and intimidating sites now replaced with hip restaurants and bars, Giles did a great job of setting the scene and building a picture of Jack the Ripper's killing spree. I'd recommend this tour.
Our tour guide was Alan and he was great made the cold night enjoyable would definitely recommends this walking tour had an great time thank you
Highly recommend! If you have the opportunity to request the tour guide Giles, please do so. He was hilarious, knowledgeable and absolutely thoroughly versed in all things Jack the Ripper. It was freezing on our tour but he was so engrossing I barely felt it. This tour is eerie, fascinating, and full of fun interesting facts and theories I've never heard before.
Very fun night time tour. Giles was the perfect guide1
Guide was very entertaining and knowledgeable about not only Jack the Ripper but the entire Whitechapel and City of London area. Had a really good time learning about the area and how it has changed and how it has not changed in many ways.
Loved our guide, he was knowledgeable and friendly, brought London of olde alive!
We had such a great time with Charles! Also known as Giles to my sister and Nigel to my cousin as we all heard a different name but I'm betting on Charles. Not only was the walking tour informative and entertaining but Charles had a great way of lightening the mood of such a serious topic and engaging the tour group with demonstrations and thought provoking questions. We also had a blast learning about the history of London during that time, which Charles used to put the subject matter into perspective. You will not be disappointed with Charles' tour, highly recommended!
Tour was fantastic. Tour guide was great. Joe Know all the stories and twists to the case.
You get to walk the actual streets where the murders took place...at night!
Worth the time and
Only thing missing was the London Fog :
From the 800 year old creepy St. Boldoph's church to the tiny backstreet endearing nicknamed sht alley this tour was a real trek through time. Tales of life in White Chapel before it was electrified really set the stage for the grim crime wave. I particularly enjoyed the vivid descriptions of Poor House living. Book this tour if you like a mix of gritty history and spooky stories.
Great learning small tour experience with a fab guide.
