Trip through London’s darkest tales with a 2.5-hour haunted London bus and walking tour. Experience the grisly histories of execution, rebellion, madness and murder that shadow this ancient city. Discover the stories and sites of Jack the Ripper, Sweeney Todd and the Cock Lane Ghost. Visit the medieval Smithfield Market and the monument of Sir Willam Wallace, then finish in Trafalgar Square where you can purchase a tasty pub dinner and drink.
Your evening tour through London’s sinister history begins at Victoria Coach Station, where you’ll board a vintage double-decker bus. From your comfortable vantage point, take in the shadowy scenery as you snake through the city’s darkened streets.
The journey begins with a ride through haunted London. Pass Westminster Abbey and the Banqueting House at Whitehall, the execution site of King Charles I in 1649. Immerse yourself in the tales of execution etiquette in the 17th century, when beheading was the favored act. Learn of skilled executioners and the spectacle that would unravel during bloody public executions at Tower Hill. Then zip past Old Bailey – site of public hangings in the 19th century – and Fleet Street to see where the barber Sweeney Todd gruesomely butchered clients and packed them into meat pies to be guzzled by local patrons.
Your next stop will be London’s Smithfield Market. A historic site that began as a meat market in the 10th century, Smithfield witnessed many brutal executions over the centuries. Wander the building and surrounding lanes as you hear about historical figures that met their end here such as Wat Tyler, leader of the Peasants' Revolt, and Scottish patriot William Wallace. Visit Wallace’s memorial and learn about the sickening practice of grave robbing, a popular money-making scheme in the 19th century.
As night falls, arrive at London’s East End, where Jack the Ripper stalked his victims more than 125 years ago. Pass locations where the Ripper’s five victims were found by horrified Londoners. Disembark to follow the murder trail, hearing facts about the murder scenes and women who were brutally assaulted with chilling clinical precision. Discuss theories and suspects that have come and gone, leaving the Jack the Ripper story a great unsolved mystery.
The 2.5-hour tour concludes with a visit to the Sherlock Holmes Pub near Trafalgar Square. Explore Holmes memorabilia and warm yourself with a drink and some crispy English fish and chips (own expense).
We loved this tour! It brought us to parts of the city we would not have visited otherwise and we learned so much! Our guide was fantastic and this inspired us to look in to tours where we live Chicago because we realized there is probably so much we don't know. Highly recommend to anyone interested in learning more about the history of London and leaving the typically touristy areas. We weren't super interested in Jack the Ripper before the tour, but certainly are now.
Fascinating and intriguing. Great guide.
Pretty interesting! Our guide made this tour very interesting by making it seem that each of us were involved in solving this mystery. A must do when visiting London!
The guide was funny and informative
Your Tours is Five Star
Magnus Neilson was our tour leader. He gave us tons of info about the sights we passed on our way to the Jack the Ripper neighbourhood. Magnus was very knowledgeable about Jack the Ripper - both facts and myths - and kept us well entertained and informed. Highly recommend this tour to anyone with an interest in Jack the Ripper.
This was a really cool trip. Not only did it take you around key locations of Jack the Ripper, but it was also a great way to see London at night. Plus it had some cool extra locations that the tour brought you- such as the headquarters from James Bond and the location where Sherlock dies in the new series. The tour guide, Allan, was hilarious and informative. It was a small group too which was nice because you got to know people as well. Overall a great trip
Very knowledgable tour guide. We got to see areas of London that we would not have seen on our own by just visiting the monuments.
Sinead was great made for a very fun and insightful tour
Sinead was our tour guide and she was amazing. The meeting place is a little confusing to get to if you are taking the circle or district lines to Victoria station. I've taken tours in Rome that were like this and in Rome you can really get into the spirit of the story because everything around you is old and classic. In London, on this tour, most buildings are modern and it really takes away from the spectacle. Sinead's story telling was spot on and really brought out the violent nature of the crimes.
