What You Can Expect

Small-Group Day Trip to Bath, Lacock and Stonehenge from London

Day Trip to Bath, Lacock and Stonehenge

Following pickup from central London, travel out of the English capital and through the countryside along an ancient road that was used by the Romans some 2,000 years ago. Pass ancient burial chambers and a 4,000-year-old pyramid on Silbury Hill, as well as traditional pubs, historical monuments and the eye-catching White Horse hill carvings.

Spend the morning in Lacock for a taste of old-world England. Seemingly untouched by modern developments, this charming village has been featured in Cranford, Pride and Prejudice, several of the Harry Potter movies and other films and television series. Follow your guide on a sightseeing tour, and then return to your vehicle for a drive through the Cotswolds hills to Bath.

Tours Bath’s pretty squares, terraces and crescents on a city tour. Visit, too, the famous Roman Baths and learn how in the 18th-century Georgian Era, the wealthy, upper-class arrived from London to take advantage of its supposedly healing waters. Then, enjoy free time for lunch (own expense) before traveling onward to Stonehenge.

After your included visit to Stonehenge, where you’ll hear the facts and theories about the mysterious stone circle, return to the original start point in London.

A most enjoyable journey with our host/guide/driver Tony Lawless of International Friends. He was at the meeting place promptly as scheduled, jovial, informative and accessible to all his clients. The visit to Stonehenge was the zenith of the trip for me and we were able to spend satisfactory time.

We have used Viator's small group tours in Italy, France and now London. Each time the tour experience has been exceptional! I am not sure how you hire your guides yet, they always are so diverse in their historical knowledge and Tony (London's) was hilarious!

We were looking for a small-group day trip to Stonehenge and Bath that would give us the most possible time in both places. After looking at many other tours, we chose this one as it had the fewest "stops" on the tour. I can't imagine adding another destination to this itinerary as there is simply not enough time for a proper visit.

This tour was exactly as advertised. Our group was only 11 people, which made it even more enjoyable. Our guide, Chicago Mike, was outstanding. Very knowledgeable about all the places we visited. And because we were in an "executive coach" and not a big tour bus, he was able to drive down small lanes and show us a few extra sights not originally on the tour, such as Avebury and Woodhenge, which were both very interesting.

Lacock was a great first stop. The town is absolutely charming. When we arrived, I remembered I'd visited the ruins of the old abbey that is located there when I was a studying abroad almost 30 years ago. The town, despite being a setting for Harry Potter films and PBS mini-series seems basically unchanged.

Our visit to Bath included a tour of the baths, and then we were able to roam around the town on our own for about 90 minutes or so. We loved the gorgeous Georgian architecture. We had time to grab a quick lunch and have a tasting of locally produced ciders at a pub tucked away on a side street.

Stonehenge was fantastic, and exceeded our expectations. Our guide had given us a lot of information along the way so we could truly appreciate what we were seeing. Despite the fact that many other tourists were visiting at the same time, we definitely didn't feel crowded or overwhelmed. In fact, we can't believe how many of our photos look like we were the only people there.

Great tour, great guide, and great experience. Highly recommend.

Sights worth seeing, well conducted by a good guide; excellent tour. My only complaint is that in Bath and again in Lacock, our guide told us to be back at our vehicle at a certain hour, but at that hour the guide and his vehicle were not at the designated meeting place, which resulted in the waste of several minutes between the time when we got back, and the time when the guide finally arrived with the vehicle. Not a long time wasted, but precious minutes nevertheless, in view of the very limited time available at each stop. Otherwise excellent tour.
