Amazing whale watching experience with a marine biologist on board. After seeing many magnificent whales, mostly in pairs, we heard live whale song through a special micrphone placed over the boat and deep into the water. It was unforgettable!
We booked Cabo Trek online for our whale watching experience. They were very difficult to find at the marina as they are a small operation which needs to do a lot of work on their signage. The trip itself was great - Cabo Treck is a joint venture run by two marine biologists who are conducting research on whales in the Sea of Cortez and take tourists with them to help fund their research. Since whales are their business, they knew exactly where to look and we saw a total of six whales on our trip! The marine biologists were on board and shared a wealth of information about whales and their research which their competitors can not offer.
The tour was very very good! Our guide was extremely knowledgeable and was not only a guide, but an educator. She was able to tell us many interesting facts about the Sea of Cortez and it's marine life while we were waiting for the whales to appear! Cabo Trek knew where the whales were and how to get to see them, they also were not afraid to move to a new spot when it was getting too crowded by other boats! Definitely recommend!
It was amazing. Our whale guide really knew his stuff and made every effort to make sure we saw whales. We saw so many whales because of his perseverance to make our tour a memorable one.
CaboTrek is the best whale watching tour. They immediately found whales and kept us on various groups all during the tour. We had plenty of room in boat to move around and take pictures. Take advantage of Frankie's professional pictures of your experience
Carbo Trek was great. It is whale season so we definitely saw activity. Frankie, the biologist, was knowledegable and made it a nice trip. Liked it so much the first time that we booked with them again three days later. It was good then, too.
we had an excellent experience. having a marine biologist as our guide really helped us better understand and appreciate these amazing animals yea, i know...mammals. we would definitely recommend this trip and company.
only complaint was website was not up to date with the physical location of their office, as they had recently moved and it was difficult to locate.
Visited Cabo and took our tour on Jan 10, 2017. The office is difficult to find and could use better signage directing to where it is. On saying that the tour was fantastic. Marie our marine biologist was very knowledgeable about all the marine life in the area. We saw a colony of sea lions sunning on the rocks, the arch and pelican rock. The best part of our tour was at the end when the two whales that we were following breached simultaneously about 30 feet directly in front or our boat. The pilot of the boat Cappy was fabulous at getting us near the whales without disturbing their natural movement and we did not feel unsafe at any time.
Thanks for the memories
We, family of 5 with 3 older teens really liked this whale watching tour. Great guide with lots of scientific knowledge.
Didn't know how close the whales come to Cabo Bay. Really could rent a jet ski and go to where the boats hang out beyond the arch. They are mostly following whales. But you couldn't take pictures that way.
Worth the money.
Ok, so this is a compare and contrast review. A few days previous to this trip we went whale watching at Todos Santos about an hour from Cabo we went out in a small panga which was quite uncomfortable and not covered, the sea was bumpy and the launching straight into the Pacific surf quite exhilarating. We saw maybe ....10 - 15 different whales and were generally the only boat with the whales and were lucky enough to witness many breaches, tail slaps and fin slaps. It was awesome.
Our trip from Cabo was in contrast exceptionally lacklustre. We spotted maybe 2 whales that spent their entire time swimming fast, possibly to escape the numerous boats crowding round them. Our boat was comfortable and had a shade cover and also a very pleasant marine biologist. It was advertised as having a hydrophone so that we could listen to the whales, this was broken and therefore we could not hear them. The trip lasted 2 and a half hours and took in a few minutes around lands end and the arch, this was nice to see. The highlight of the trip was seeing Pancho the famous sealion climbing aboard another boat entering the harbour at Cabo. Overall this tour was well run, the boat was comfy, shaded and dry. The office is not easy to find and the directions are not accurate, but asking at another shop soon resolved that. As for a whale watching experience, after our previous trip to Todos Santos it was rubbish BUT that is nature and I guess maybe they do see whales at Cabo but alas that day we did not.
