Exotic, idyllic, yet soothingly familiar
Its been a lifelong dream to cruise down the Nile, and although our tight schedule didnt afford us the luxury of unwinding for four days down from Luxor to Aswan, Id say we found an equally rewarding experience on the Sunset Felucca cruise. Theres something deeply tranquil about sailing gently upstream against a fresh Nile breeze, taking in the best of Luxors ruins. Our tour guide, George, was very resourceful in pointing out the sights, but perhaps more importantly in highlighting the role of the Nile in sustaining the agrarian lifestyle of the many residents of the West Bank. Amidst all the correspondence of Egyptian instability in the West, its simple things like experiencing the hospitality of the people of Banana Island a great halfway point for some tea and snacks! while appreciating the contrast of the desert and farmland from the best vantage point in the city, that simultaneously make you appreciate the gentleness of the human condition and the beauty of Egypt.
