Grand Madeira Island Tour - Porto Moniz and Santana

Cabo Girao, Madeira

Meet your guide along Avenida do Mar at the Hotel Bus Stop or your Funchal city hotel and begin your full-day tour of Madeira. Start with a drive to Pico da Torre aboard an air-conditioned coach and ogle the charming fishing town Camara de Lobos. Continue from here to Cabo Girao and admire a view of the seaside cliff standing 580 meters high, the second tallest in the world.
Next, visit Encumeada summit where both north and south sides of the island can be viewed from 1,007 meters high (depending on weather conditions). Then, rise 1,400 meters in your coach to the island’s single plateau, Paul da Sarra.

Continue to the small north coast town of Porto Moniz popular for its magical swimming pools sculpted out of volcanic rock. From here, traverse by seaside roads surrounded by rocky terrain to ogle impressive waterfalls. Afterward, head to historical Sao Vicente renown as the 'Court of the North.' Enjoy charming streets and monuments in town before stopping for lunch.

Next, follow your guide to the sweeping view at Cabanas Sao Jorge and whip out your camera for some postcard worthy shots. Save some selfies for the following alluring area of Faial with its fairytale cottages. Finally, explore the town of Machico where voyageurs famously left to discover new lands by sea in the 1420s. Then, return to Funchal where your tour ends.

This tour was a wonderful orientation to an incredible island. Our tour guide was a very friendly Madeiran man who spoke English quite fluently. He delighted in answering our many questions, and that gave us a real insider's view of Madeiran life and culture. We would highly recommend this tour.
