What You Can Expect

Walking Food Tour in Downtown Madison

Even on rainy days we still have a great time!

Make your way to a central location in downtown Madison, then join a guide and group for your first tasting at The Great Dane: fuel up for the walk with snacks and beer as you learn about the history of the restaurant and Wisconsin’s bratwurst tradition.

Stroll towards Gotham Bagels, with plenty of time to stop to see the city’s architectural landmarks, and hear stories about Madison history. Pause to try samples from the only New York City style bagel shop in Madison, then keep walking towards Capitol Square, site of the weekly Dane County Farmers Market. Head into the thriving, student area of State Street for your next two tastings, Mackinac Island-style fudge at Kilwins, and deep fried cheese curds from the Wisconsin Brewing Tap Haus. Look inside the beautiful Capitol building, and find out the controversy behind Madison’s first skyscraper.

End the tour on a sweet note with a milkshake tasting at DLUX, a modern burger restaurant near the capitol, and close to downtown Madison attractions.

The Walking Food Tour in Downtown Madison was fabulous! It was a great way to get a wonderful taste of Wisconsin and also get acquainted with downtown Madison. Brittney was a fabulous host and historian and did a wonderful job making us feel at home in this city. The food was delicious and a great variety sample of Wisconsin. We had a beautiful day to walk the tour and with Brittney having things so well planned and organized, we had a very enjoyable time. I think my favorite was the bagel stop! But the cheese curds were the best I have ever tasted!

Went through the capital building including the upper area. The guide was able to to tell us about the history of the Madison area in a fun way. Checked out two of the local breweries. We were surprised at how much of the area you could see while walking!!

Get ready to eat some state and local favorite food! Brittany is knowledgeable and fun as she leads you around downtown. Save some room for the shake!

Good mix of Madison history, architecture, and quintessential food. The walking component was easy and leisurely. There was a lot of food--a bit on the heavy side, so go hungry. I had trouble registering on-line and needed to call to ensure I got on the tour. Don't let this extra work discourage you--go! This tour was a lot of fun and a very good value.
