Overview

Avoid the crowds as you skip the line and get the inside scoop on some of the best art at Madrid’s iconic Prado museum on this 90-minute guided tour. This sprawling museum is nearly unparalleled in its collection of European art, but can also be overwhelming for new visitors. Let your guide introduce you to museum’s the top highlights and their fascinating backstories, including Diego Velazquez’s ‘Las Meninas’ and ‘The Annunciation’ by El Greco. Best of all, this small-group visit is limited to just 20 guests, ensuring a personalized experience.
  • See the highlights of the Prado Museum’s incredible collection with an art expert guide
  • Hear tales of King Charles III who commissioned the Prado to be built in the late 18th century
  • Learn about influential European artists like Hieronymus Bosch and El Greco
  • Small-group tour limited to 20 people ensures a personalized experience with your guide
Skip the long lines and get right inside the Prado, Madrid’s most famous art museum, during this 90-minute guided tour covering its top highlights. This insider’s discovery of this top-notch cultural institution, limited to just 20 guests per group, is sure to give you a new perspective on Spain’s incredible art history.

Start your visit at 3pm outside the Prado, where you’ll meet your guide for the day and receive your priority-access admission to the museum, allowing you to jump right past the crowds and head straight inside.

This incredible art museum is one of Spain’s, and Europe’s, finest, covering more than 9,000 paintings plus numerous sculptures, drawings and prints. Learn about the museum’s founding as you wander with your guide. Originally devised by King Charles III in the 18th century, the collections housed in this neo-classical building soon outgrew the space available, resulting two-further expansions.

Follow your guide as you visit some of the museum’s top pieces in chronological order, beginning with a look at the work of Hieronymus Bosch including his The Garden of Earthly Delights and The Seven Deadly Sins. Proceed next on an exploration of the works of Spanish renaissance artist El Greco, whose output includes sculpture, architecture and painting. Learn about his unique style as evidenced in his work The Annunciation. Continue to view Las Meninas by Velazquez, considered by many to be one of the most iconic artworks in Western history. End your art tour with a look at The Family of Carlos IV by Francisco Goya, a work that includes an image of the artist himself — an unexpected decision at the time it was painted in the 19th century.

End your Prado visit inside the museum, where you can continue your exploration at your leisure.

Great - just not enough time

We really enjoyed, but the crowds were intense and there wasn't enough time to really absorb and explore...both items on our timing.

Great Access and great tour guide.

Although the access seemed efficient and best to do with so many tours going on at the same time you could barely hear your tour guide. It would be super helpful if you knew ahead time what artists or period they cover beforehand to see if that tour would be best. We enjoyed it but needs to be better organized so you can actually see the paintings they refer to and hear.

Got left for just 2 minutes

We were two minutes late due to the cooking class that Viator set up that was held earlier that same day and the guide for the Prado Tour left without us. When we ask if we could join them they said no, so we lost all of the money we paid for the tour. We were not happy after all the money we've spent on Viator tours over the years for two minutes!

Informative guide

Our guide was knowledgeable and spent time on the greatest (in our opinion) paintings -- by Goya and Bosch. However, even though she used a cane she race-walked throughout, so it was difficult for some of us to keep up (but we managed). All things considered, we really loved this tour and fulfilled another item on our bucket lists. We are a mother-daughter team who loves to travel together.(For some strange reason, you do not have a category for us so I had to check off "solo".)

Good Overview Of Several Of The Top Works

Our guide was knowledgeable, and in a museum so vast and crowded in the fall season, it was great to be guided directly to the top works of art. After the tour, we took a break and then went back for some more on our own.

I would have liked to see more. Our guide was very good but I felt she spent too much time on a few paintings when we could have seen more.

Prado Tour - I missed it!
RVATraveler2014
, Oct 2019
Unfortunately, I missed the tour because I could not find the meeting point. The directions were too vague for me, and people I asked (including the police) did not know the location and were no help. When I finally found it, about 1/2 hour late, of course the tour had left. It was a very obvious place; it's just that there are so many obvious places I could not fin the right one. If the directions had included a cross street, it would have been better.
