This was an interesting and informative morning with our erudite and very politically aware guide, Maahee. I hope that spelling is close We learned much about the country and its turmoil, the state of emergency that was in effect at the time, and the hope that the young people have in their government. We also walked through both the old and the new of the city, as well as the great fish market! We saw a lot, learned a lot and enjoyed it all.
It is a small island with a lot of history and without our guide Maahee we would have just walked around and had the visual but not the story. Maahee was excellent taking time to answer ever question and talk about what we were interested in. There are so many things to see in this tiny, crowded place. Highlights were the beautiful buildings, the park and of course the views from the top of Male's tallest building.
Our plane was late arriving in Male and our guide was very accommodating in waiting for us. Our guide, Maahee with Secret Paradise Maldives was very knowledgeable of the history and culture of the Maldives. The tour was exactly what we had expected - he took us to all the essential place in a sort period of time. The refreshment stop was also very good. We were a little late finishing the tour and Maahee paid for our taxi ride back tot he pier. The only thing we would change is the souvenir shop he took us to did not have the variety of items that we wanted - very limit selection.
I really loved this walking tour. My guide Koko was very knowledgeable. Male is a small and crowded city, but I found it fascinating to learn in depth about the Maldivian history and culture. Most tourists never set foot in Male as they are whisked to their isolated luxury resorts upon landing here. I was fortunate to have had a half day free upon my arrival to take this tour. I'd highly recommend it if you have the time.
