The Mahamuni Pagoda, which houses a Buddha image originally made out of alloy until fine foils of gold were gilded on; it now weighs more than a ton (900 kg). See the golden crown decorated in diamonds, jade, rubies, sapphires, and emeralds.
The Shwe Inbin Monastery and Shwenandaw Kyaung (Golden Palace Monastery), an imposing teak temple that was originally built within the palace complex but subsequently dismantled and reconstructed some years later.
Hlaing Hlaing Yo was an excellent guide and was happy to answer all our questions. We went to two teak temples, a wood carving shop, the gold beating shop, the world’s largest book and finished in Mandalay Hill. It was very informative tour and we would recommend it.
Amazing private tour. Our tour guide May was very knowledgeable, spoke clearly and took all our needs into account. We visited the most amazing sights in just 4 hours, which even our child could enjoy. Tour was also very flexible as we could go pretty anywhere we wanted and stay as long or short as we wanted. At the end we even took a detour to a central mall, had lunch there at our own cost, and they took us back to the hotel afterwards. Thanks guys!
This was a fantastic tour of the cultural aspects of Mandalay. Our guide was very knowledgable and gave us a really in depth understanding of the religious and cultural values here. His name was Da Da That's what it sounded like. You took us from a simple monestary to the golden palace monestary which at one time had been completely covered in gold leaf.
A tour well worth taking. You really can't do it by yourself. You need a guide who can explain what you are seeing.
