Mustapha, our guide, and Hassan, our mule-driver and cook, led our family of 4 on a great 3d/2n trek on an approximately 25-mile loop, starting and ending in Imlil, passing through many fascinating Berber villages, and climbing up and over 4 significant passes. Mustapha was knowledgeable, informative, flexible, and fun! He led us with confidence, informed about the mountains and village life, and was warm-hearted and playful. Critically, Mustapha was adaptable. Our son twisted his ankle in the week before the trek and was incapable of doing much walking at all. Mustapha made several adjustments to our itinerary that allowed our son to participate as fully as possible via auto, bus, and motorcycle transport. Not every outfitter or guide would be willing or able to make such last-minute changes. We think it's a real credit to Targa and Mustapha's dedication and professionalism that they were able to accommodate us so well.
We strongly recommend this trek for anyone who likes to hike and wants to see the beauty of the Atlas Mountains and Berber village life up close. The trek is an opportunity for a very welcome break from the incessant bustle of life in Marrakech. We'd love to return for future, longer hikes in the Atlas with Mustapha - maybe up Toubkal in the summertime!
One caveat/complaint: The price of the trek does not cover the cost of the 3 lunches provided along the way. This is specified in the fine print of the trek details, but it's likely that many customers are unaware, as we were. The lunches, which were yummy, are not truly optional - they occur along the way as part of a midday rest on the trail. The clients don't really have any option of not taking the lunches and there's nothing in the way that they're presented that feels optional whatsoever. But, at the end of the trip, the client will be presented with a bill for an additional 7 Euros per person per day. For our family that was a shock of an unexpected 84 Euros. So be forewarned. We think that Targa should stop selling a car without a steering wheel and include the cost of the lunches in the price of the trek.
Great trip, great views, very nice and helpful guide. Cold in the night, but the sun during the day maken you warm again.
This tour was worthwhile because of our guide Idris. He was very good and willing to lend a helping hand (literally and figuratively). The meals were ok and the organizers didn't communicate well, but still would recommend this trip as a way to get away from everything.
Great trip, had fantastic guide and chef, they were always happy to help and answer questions. Walk was challenging but not exhausting so just what I was after.
Trip was fantastic. Really encourage anyone reading to do it. Issmail and Hussain were brilliant hosts. Food was delicious. Well organised. Issmail was very informative and looked after us. They even taught us how to play Moroccan cards which was really fun.
Thanks for a great experience!
I would highly recommend this tour. My guide Issmail was excellent, flexible, great company and spoke very good English. The views were spectacular and, though it was quite challenging at times, the hike itself was fantastic. Thank you Issmail for your wonderful hospitality and love to your family.
Would definitely recommend this tour and specifically our guide issmail he is great. The guest house was basic but clean and the chef Ahmed cooked us some great food. Slight confusion with payment for lunches, would have been good to know price up front rather than at the end of the tour once eaten.
This trek was amazing, both from a hiking standpoint and as a cultural experience. Our guide, Omar, taught us a lot about Berber culture and picked great trails for us to hike. The food was great and all of our meals were prepared for us. There were no added costs, unlike some other Moroccan tours you'll find on Viator. Also unlike other Moroccan tours, our guide wasn't pushing us to buy things from merchants so that he could skim a commission off the top. Instead, he operated with our best interests in mind and by the end of the trip, we considered him a friend. Overall, we thought this tour was awesome and would recommend it to anyone.
A once in a lifetime experience. The High Atlas Mountains do not dissapoint, and the people we met were just as wonderful as the landscape. Our guide and muleteer M'hamid 1 and 2 were fantastic, as was our host Mustafa, and the friends we made along the way. Unforgettable. I am a changed person.
I've spent three days trekking in different Atlas Valley up to 3200 meters altitude with my guide Abdel, eating local excellent cuisine, sleeping in Berber villages, dancing, singing, LIVING!
Off course the Atlas Mountains are breathtaking, the berber villages brings you to a different way of life, the berbers are welcoming you in the best ways and Abdel was the absolute guide you want to have: He will tells you about the Berber Life Style and History, Morroco, the Atlas and be a Friend to you! I wish to see him again!
