What You Can Expect

Day Trip to Atlas Mountains from Marrakech with Optional Visit to Takerkoust Lake and Kik Plateau

Discover the Ourika Waterfalls on your day trip to the Three Valleys

Taking a day to explore the stunning scenery of the Atlas Mountains is a highlight of any trip to Marrakech. You get to see how different life is in the villages of the valleys and what a truly beautiful country Morocco is.

Begin your small-group day trip with a pickup from your Marrakech hotel or riad, and  board your air-conditioned 4x4 or minivan.

Hear about Morocco’s rural way of life as you drive into the foothills of the Atlas Mountains. Admire the snow-tipped peaks as you head further into the spectacular range, and after roughly an hour, arrive at the Ourika Valley.

Ogle the greenery and terraced slopes and stop to admire the Ourika’s stunning waterfalls — a lovely contrast to the rugged mountain slopes.

Walk to the falls and take photos of the tumbling waters, and then visit a local Argan Oil Co-operative, where Berber women extract the oil of Argan nuts to use in cooking and cosmetics. Then visit a bio-aromatic garden where plants and herbs are cultivated for medicinal, aromatic and decorative purposes.

Drive on into the beautiful Oukaimeden Valley. Climb to 5,900 feet (1,800 meters) up a winding mountain road, passing Berber villages of stone and adobe perched on the steep slopes.

Stop for lunch at a restaurant (own expense) or opt to visit a local family home for your meal. Meet your welcoming Berber hosts and enjoy a homemade lunch of salad or soup, tagine with couscous and a dessert and drinks.

Continue to the third valley — the Asni Valley high in the mountains. View Mt Toubkal, at 13,665 feet (4,165 meters) and pass the Asni’s apple, walnut, peach and almond groves. Afterward, head toward the fourth valley that is Asni, famous by its fruit trees (Apples, walnut, almonds, peaches...), have your camera ready to take pictures of highest peak in North Africa, the Toubkal mount with 13 665 feet.

Afterward, return to Marrakech or, if you’ve upgraded, take the 1-hour drive to Takerkoust Lake. Admire the azure artificial lake framed by snow-capped mountains and pass traditional villages to the Kik Plateau, a limestone mountain plateau with epic views over the verdant valleys below.

Your trip then ends with a drop-off at your Marrakesh accommodation.

Our guide Ahmed was incredible! He went above and beyond to make sure we had a fantastic day. He talked to us about cultural experiences in the area and introduced us to local foods and customs. We got stuck in a bit of traffic which was out of his control, however he handled it so well and made the entire trip so memorable and enjoyable. It was once in a life time and I highly recommend this day trip.

This was a fantastic tour, made extra special for us by the heavy snow the previous few days. The views were spectacular and Ahmed our guide was so lovely, friendly and lots of fun. The transportation was very luxurious as well. The Ourika Waterfalls were a high point, the guide we had for that part of the trip was also so helpful and we had a relaxing mint tea and coffe break at the top. The drive into the mountains and Oukaimeden Valley was beautiful. The views in the village were we had our lunch were just incredible, we werent expecting that! Also, our tour was originally scheduled for the Monday however we were contacted on the Sunday informing us of the snow and asking if wed like to move it to the Tuesday. We were very happy with having the option and this decision as we got to see the heavy snow but on a much brighter day! Great service all round.

Our chaffeur/tour guide Chakib was very informative and accomodating to our needs. Excellent driver who kept us safe! Spectacular experience and the best part was the sumptuous Moroccan feast they have prepared and we had it in a traditional Berber home in the midst of the Atlas range! So impressive!

Abdul was a very good guide, lots of knowledge about the area and with lots of information to share.

The walk was more of a challenge than expected and perhaps should have been explained a little more as some may not have appreciated it.

A very good lunch a a Berber house and great views along the valleys and in the mountains.

It was a welcome retreat into the nature after some days of the vibrant souks and sumptuous feast for the eyes of fine Marrakech architecture and designs in the medina.T he day trip was an amazing eye-opener to witness for real, the change of dry arid desert climate of Morocco to picturesque lush greenery around oases and rivers in the Atlas grounds. In Ourika, it was as if time stood still some decades ago. It's here that I did not see a generation glued to the smart-phone. The visit to see the local Berban women work at the argan oil products was most educational.
The guide & chauffeur, Ahmed, was handsome, pleasant, well-informed and humorous. He looked after us well. He drove competently and kindly offered treats to the Berban children along the way. it's heartening to see how the tour companies are collaborating with the local Berbans to help them in their needs.

Our trip to the Atlas Mountains guided by Abdul was a smashing success. Abdul's attentiveness to the needs of the seven travelers in our group was appreciated by all. Abdul is tremendously informed about Morocco's history and its culture. His thoughtful commentary provided substance to what we saw and enriched our tour experience, I would wholeheartedly recommend any tour guided by Abdul and hope that our paths cross again during our stay in Morocco

We really enjoyed this trip. We were a party of 2 and we're joined by 3 others. Our guide, Abdul, was very knowledgeable and considerate making sure we were all safely able to compete the waterfall climb and shared his knowledge about Morocco in general and the Berbers in particular. Nothing was too much trouble for him and he navigated some interesting roads very safely and professionally. The lunch was excellent - as promised the best tangine we had in Morocco.
