I will start with the positive. We give 5 stars to our driver and our guide in Essaouira, but we give only 1 star to the tour company, their advertising, and their logistics. We signed up for a Small group day tour from Marrakech with private guide. There were 4 of us. We were told we would be picked up at our hotel at 7:45am. We waited. And waited. And waited. And finally asked the hotel concierge to call the company. We then learned that our assumption that a vehicle could be sent at 7:45 to transport the 4 of us was completely wrong. Instead, we were told that there was a vehicle making the rounds of the hotels, and it would pick us up soon. If we wanted our own vehicle for us, it would be an additional 50 EUROS! This was after paying about 300 for the 4 of us already. But we decided to do it, because by now it was after 9am, and we were told that if we didn't do it, we would have no choice about what time to come back either. Since is was supposedly 3 hours each way, and we were told the tour would be back at the hotel by 7pm, we figured that meant we would have less than 3 hours in Essaouria, even though we had been led to believe that we would have 4 hours with a private guide while there. Once our driver arrived he could not have been more friendly and helpful, and the same is true of the guide we had in Essaaouira. However, here are a few other warnings. When we were almost to Essaouira the driver pulled into a scenic overlook where there were locals with camels, and I was immediately thrust onto the back of a camel, as was one of the others in our group. After leading us around the parking lot for 5 to 10 minutes, we were taken off, and told that we were now to pay 600 dirham, which is about 60 Euros! For a 5 minute camel ride?? We eventually gave them 400 dirham for the two of us, but felt extremely ripped off and betrayed. That was my one mark against our driver, who should have told us what was going on. Once we were in Essaouira we were taken to some shops that were supposedly fixed price, but after expressing interest in something and then trying to walk away, they started trying to bargain with us. Overall we were very glad to have the experience. But the misleading advertising on the website is really shameful. At the very least, the website should make it clear that you will not be getting a vehicle just for your small group and should let you know that there is that option available, for a hefty additional fee. Frankly, our concierge was appalled he was the one who made multiple calls for us to figure out what was going on and he told us we should have booked something through him instead - it would have been much cheaper, and more in line with what we thought we were getting. I think he was definitely right.
