Marseille Shore Excursion: Aix-en-Provence Tour from Marseille

Four Dolphins Fountain in Aix-en-Provence

Discover the ancient yet youthful town of Aix-en-Provence with a leisurely 4-hour tour of the city’s highlights. A friendly guide will greet you at the dock in Marseille and escort you by coach through the the Provençal countryside. Upon arrival, you’ll disembark near Cours Mirabeau, Aix’s chic central thoroughfare lined with rich architecture, diverse markets, boutiques and cafés. As you make your way to the Place du Général de Gaulle, admire vibrant 19th-century buildings and hear about some of the city’s famous visitors and sons, including Albert Camus, Paul Cézanne and Émile Zola.
Your guided tour pays homage to Aix’s preserved heritage and architecture, from 12th century buildings to more ‘modern’ constructions dating from the last 300 years, as well as the town’s many artistic accents. Admire spectacular fountains such as the Four Dolphins Fountain, dating from 1667, and the Place d’Albertas fountain, and grand buildings like Cathédral Saint-Sauveur d’Aix and Hôtel de Ville (City Hall).
After the guided tour, choose to explore independently or visit the Atelier Paul Cézanne at Les Lauves (own expense), a brilliant piece of living history. View the preserved studio where the artist created his final masterpieces, and attend an exclusive art workshop.
Following your 4-hour tour, relax as your guide drives you back to port.

Excellent tour. Our guide was knowledgeable and friendly and she really personalized the tour for each participant. This was a very nice way to see how people in this area of France live and we enjoyed the relaxing pace of the tour.

1 star rating: I do not recommend this June 2016

Extremely disappointed . 1/2 hour late picking us up - had to contact the office twice before they sent someone to pick us up. There really wasn't a tour - it was merely a ride to Aix en Provence - then handed a map and free time - expected to go to Cezanne's studio as advertised when we signed for the tour - but local tour guide said that was not part of tour. Viator contracts out the tours - so the tour does not always match what you book back in the States.
