What You Can Expect

Marseille Shore Excursion: Private Aix-en-Provence and Valensole Lavender Tour

Drive through the beautiful Provence countryside on your way to the famous lavender fields

Disembark at the Marseille port and transfer to a comfortable minivan for your full-day, private shore excursion into the heart of Provence. Relax as your friendly guide sets off for the 45-minute drive to Aix-en-Provence, an elegant university town that offers abundant sightseeing, shopping and culinary indulgence. With your guide, visit some of Aix’s diverse markets and charming quarters. Then take some private time to relax in the park, check out local boutiques or grab some lunch (own expense) before departing.

Travel on to the Valensole Plateau to see blooming fields of lavender that stretch as far as the eye can see. A Latin-based word meaning ‘valley of the sun,’ Valensole's hot climate and rich earth create the perfect environment for growing this distinct purple flower, warm-weather herbs and almond trees. Stop in the picturesque Valensole village, where you can purchase a bursting bouquet of lavender or some essential oil to take home.

Your 8-hour private tour of Provence ends with a relaxing ride back to Marseille. You’ll arrive at your cruise terminal by mid-afternoon.

Silvan was the perfect driver! He met us at the cruise terminal on time and drove us to Aix-en-Provence which is a feast for the eyes. From there we went to the lavender fields which were a feast for the senses. So beautiful and they go on for miles and miles.

The tour through Aix-en-Provence was a nice stroll through the city highlighted by a church tour that just happened to have a choir singing inside. It was one of the coolest things we were able to see on our trip. Then we went out to the lavender fields and the town of Valensole, all of which were beautiful. We had a great baguette lunch in the market and couldn't have asked for a better guide than Sylvain. He was very knowledgeable and spoke great English. This was a perfect relaxing tour with plenty of sights to see. We enjoyed every minute of it.

Our guide, Vicki, was fabulous. She explained the history of the city and stayed with us the entire time. On Tuesdays and Saturdays there is a flea market and she gave us ample time to wander about. We stopped for a coffee and croissant mid-morning and didn't need lunch. Off to the lavender fields which were spectacular. A most comfortable vehicle. A most enjoyable day.
