What To Expect

Your helicopter tour begins at Kahului Heliport, where you buckle up inside an A-star helicopter with six forward-facing seats. Every passenger in these air-conditioned helicopters has 180-degree views, and the leather seats make a comfortable perch for exploring the island by air.

Upon lifting off from the heliport pad, hear your pilot begin narrating the flight, and minutes later, soar above waterfalls as you approach the East Maui rain forest. Whir high above valleys and hidden pools that are only accessible by air, and get a sense for how much of the island is completely undeveloped.

After flying above bays off the Hana coastline and watching waterfalls spill towards the sea, gradually climb high up the eastern flank of Haleakala volcano. With a summit of just over 10,000 feet, this mountain is one of the world’s largest and tallest dormant volcanoes, and the colorful landscape of cinder cones and trails is stunning when viewed from the air.

Once back on the ground at Kahului heliport, you can buy a USB containing footage of the flight for a separate, additional charge, which is backed by tropical Hawaiian music and narration from onboard the trip.

  • Total weight per passenger: 240 lbs
  • Confirmation will be received at time of booking, unless booked within 3 days of travel. In this case confirmation will be received within 48 hours, subject to availability
  • Weight Restrictions: Due to FAA regulations, all passengers must be weighed at check-in. For each passenger weighing 240 pounds or more, or combined weights of 420 lbs per couple, an additional seat must be purchased at time of booking. This is for the safety and comfort of all passengers. It is important to provide accurate body weight at checkout.
  • It is recommend that all passengers wear dark clothing to help have less reflection in the windows when flying and therefore you can get better photos during your tour
  • All passenger weights MUST be advised at time of booking. Under representation of body weight may result in cancellation at check-in with no refund.
  • Flight routes & sights may vary due to weather.
  • Infants under 24 months must sit on an adult lap. PLEASE CONTACT AIR MAUI IF BRINGING AN INFANT. Over 24 months must occupy their own paid seat. We follow the same FAA regulations as the airlines.

A must excursion with an excelling host!

Our first time in a helicopter and seeing the nature of Maui and Molokai was phenomenal beyond belief. The pilot, Cameron, was excellent , courteous and fun to listen to. We had a problem getting an Uber to our ship and they went the extra mile to see a reliable cab was called. Air Maui is a class act!!

Disappointing Helicopter tour

We were ecstatic about the photos we hoped to capture on this tour. Unfortunately, we were not aware of the prearranged seating, resulting in my husband and I being confined to the seats behind the pilot. The lady providing instruction emphasized staying in the order she placed us. If we had known it was the assigned seating order I would have requested another tour. Haleakalā, waterfalls and the road to Hana were all visible from the left or a frontal. Our right sided position left of with views of the other two couples. The pilot provided excellent narration and historical tidbits so it wasn’t a complete fail. I would suggest inquiring about how many others will be in your party and request the front seat. Helicopter rides are typically the vacation highlight, but I cannot say that after this experience.

Very organized staff. They did a reminder call the day before and were so helpful at check in! The tour was amazing! Our pilot was very informative and the travel was smooth. We wish it were longer! Highly recommend. It was fascinating seeing areas of the island most people don't get the opportunity to see. Great adventure for our honeymoon!

This was an incredible flight! The vantage point of seeing Haleakala up close was magnificent, the lush rain forests of Hana were beautiful to see. In addition to that, Dylan told us about the habitat and what flora and fauna abounded. Our flight attendants were helpful and there was even a chicken family outside the airport. Charming!
