Why Our Insiders Chose This Tour

What You Can Expect

Haleakala, Iao Valley and Central Maui Day Tour

Rising up 1200 feet (365 meters) from the ground, the Iao Valley Needle is taller than many man made skyscrapers

“Iao Valley State Park will be closed indefinitely due to damage caused by heavy rain and flooding. Tours will still operate and alternate stops will be made.”

This 8-hour Central Maui day trip begins with a hotel pickup, where a knowledgeable, informative, and professional guide will help introduce you to the island. You’ll explore both State and National Parks while hearing the island’s history, and even get a glimpse of historic Wailuku—the County seat of government.

On the tour’s first stop, wind your way through Maui’s Upcountry before reaching Haleakala Crater—one of the island’s most dramatically scenic and popular spots to visit. This 10,000 ft. (3,007m) volcano has been dormant since 1790, and covers 33,000 acres of cinder cones and remote, tropical forest.

After descending the mountain and eating lunch, drive past fields of waving sugar to the famous Iao Needle, where King Kamehameha fiercely battled to place Maui under his control. A short hike leads to the viewpoint for the pointy, forested needle, which rises 1,200 feet (366m) from the valley floor against a verdant backdrop of cliffs. Later on, at the top of Wailuku, visit historic Ka’ahumanu Church—which is backed by Iao Valley—and hear the history of this picturesque church built in 1876.

On the final journey back to your hotel, drive through Wailuku past farms and fields before returning by mid-afternoon, allowing enough time to make plans for the night—if you have energy after the day tour.

This was a wonderful tour and really worth the money. There was hotel pickup and drop off with food, snacks and drinks also provided. Our tour guide was excellent and stopped at all the viewing places on the way and also explained to us in detail all the roadside views too while driving with full attention. This tour should absolutely be a part of every Maui vacation....!!

First time we ever did an organized tour. Family of 5 : we thoroughly enjoyed the experience, mostly thanks to our driver/guide. Junior was amazing for the day trip! He was kind, funny and definitely very informative. We learned A LOT about the island of Maui, the culture, language and people. We suggest you book this tour early during your vacation as to better appreciate everything that Junior explains as it unfolds throughout your stay on the island. Haleakala itself seems to be a must and we liked being able to sit back to enjoy the view rather than needing to drive. Mahalo Junior! Keep up the great work! Warm aloha from a very satisfied Canadian family.

Our tour guide was Junior, after a couple cups of coffee he seemed to come around. lol Very knowledgeable and great driving, especially going up Haleakala, glad to say no one was sick with the twists and turns. Keep in mind to dress warmly! It was pretty windy and chilly when we reached the top, and even at the summit. Highly recommend doing this tour! beautiful views, great tour guide!

Haleakala national part was a treat to visit. Iao valley was closed though. The beauty of the tour was enhanced by our guide Judy! She was entertaining.. Haleakala scenic beauty is once in a lifetime experience and one should not miss this. If you are in Maui for only one-two days, then this is the first place you visit and choose this particular tour.
