What You Can Expect

Great Ocean Road Small-Group Ecotour from Melbourne

Great Ocean Road Small-Group Eco-Tour from Melbourne

Spend a full day exploring the natural wonders of Australia’s Great Ocean Road. Your guide will pick you up at your Melbourne hotel in a comfortable, high-tech minicoach, where you’ll join just a handful of other passengers for personalized, small-group experience. Onboard narration is available in 13 different languages through specially equipped iPods.

The Great Ocean Road officially begins at Torquay, a famous surf town of gorgeous, sandy beaches. Stop at a beachside location before continuing through several charming port towns before stopping at Kennett River. This lovely ecopark is one of the best spots in Victoria to observe wild koalas.

Enjoy lunch at a local restaurant in the scenic town of Apollo Bay, and have a swim along its crescent- shaped beach. Next up, wander among the greenery of Great Otway National Park, which boasts ancient trees among a semitropical forest.

The coastal landscape comes to a dramatic climax at Port Campbell National Park, where you can gawk at the Twelve Apostles — a grouping of massive limestone pillars that rise up out of the ocean. With an optional upgrade, you can take a 15-minute helicopter ride for unforgettable aerial views of this jaw-dropping coastline.

The rugged cliffs along the Great Ocean Road once made for perilous navigation for vessels sailing into the port of Melbourne. Hear the tragic tales of Australia’s ‘Shipwreck Coast’ and visit Loch Ard Gorge, the postcard-worthy site of a notorious 1878 shipwreck.

Finally, view the Gibson's Steps for a dramatic example of the power of erosion. Take in the incredible cliff line and offshore stacks before continuing on your drive back to Melbourne.

Stop for dinner (own expense) on the approximately 3-hour return drive to Melbourne. Relax on the ride back to your hotel, or share snapshots of the day with family and friends using the coach’s free onboard Wi-Fi.

A very long day but SO worth it. I could go on and on about this tour but no words can describe the incredible experience and sights. Although the day is long and most of it on the bus, there were plenty of stops along the way. Some felt rushed but our guide, Jordan, from Go West Tours did a good job keeping track of everyone and made sure we kept to the tight itinerary. If you only have a day, I highly recommend the tour but personally, I wish we'd been able to spend a couple of days exploring this amazing coastline. Be sure you have a backup battery and storage space in your camera because you will take many, many photos!!

This is the perfect tour to take if you have limited time to explore the Great Ocean Road and don't want to drive. From the breathtaking sights, to the rainforest hike, to spotting koalas sing Please don't call me a ko-ala bear ..., this tour included so much. Of course it will be a long day but it was a fun day. Our tour guide/driver Jordan was awesome. He entertained us along the way with the history/background of the places we were visiting and had a great sense of humor. Thank you Viator, Go West Tours and Jordan for a memorable day!

Jon, our driver/guide, was informative and entertaining. He picked us up, got us out of the city, down the Great Ocean Road and all the way back safely. Excellent job Jon! Amazing sights to be seen. This is a must-do activity. Only small change would be offering vegan options at the breakfast stop. Not a big deal. I always carry trail mix with me just in case no other options are available. The Thai restaurant we stopped at for lunch did a stellar job of delivering the food within minutes of arriving. We saw wild koalas, parrots, kangaroos along the way and stopped for an echidna crossing the road.

Our guide Rachel was excellent and good fun to be with as this was a long day trip. She was very informative and nothing was too much trouble. The only thing we would change is the lunch stop as we would have preferred to try Australian food rather than Thai
