What You Can Expect

Great Ocean Road Small-Group Ecotour from Melbourne

Great Ocean Road Small-Group Eco-Tour from Melbourne

Spend a full day exploring the natural wonders of Australia’s Great Ocean Road. Your guide will pick you up at your Melbourne hotel in a comfortable, high-tech minicoach, where you’ll join just a handful of other passengers for personalized, small-group experience. Onboard narration is available in 13 different languages through specially equipped iPods.

The Great Ocean Road officially begins at Torquay, a famous surf town of gorgeous, sandy beaches. Stop at a beachside location before continuing through several charming port towns before stopping at Kennett River. This lovely ecopark is one of the best spots in Victoria to observe wild koalas.

Enjoy lunch at a local restaurant in the scenic town of Apollo Bay, and have a swim along its crescent- shaped beach. Next up, wander among the greenery of Great Otway National Park, which boasts ancient trees among a semitropical forest.

The coastal landscape comes to a dramatic climax at Port Campbell National Park, where you can gawk at the Twelve Apostles — a grouping of massive limestone pillars that rise up out of the ocean. With an optional upgrade, you can take a 15-minute helicopter ride for unforgettable aerial views of this jaw-dropping coastline.

The rugged cliffs along the Great Ocean Road once made for perilous navigation for vessels sailing into the port of Melbourne. Hear the tragic tales of Australia’s ‘Shipwreck Coast’ and visit Loch Ard Gorge, the postcard-worthy site of a notorious 1878 shipwreck.

Finally, view the Gibson's Steps for a dramatic example of the power of erosion. Take in the incredible cliff line and offshore stacks before continuing on your drive back to Melbourne.

Stop for dinner (own expense) on the approximately 3-hour return drive to Melbourne. Relax on the ride back to your hotel, or share snapshots of the day with family and friends using the coach’s free onboard Wi-Fi.

We departed from Melbourne with a group of about 18 or so. This is an all day tour, with a fair amount of driving involved, but our guide John kept it fun with lots of stories and great music along the route. Really appreciated the attention to site specific playlists. Hopefully John creates a spotify playlist i can follow? Hint hint Various pit stops included the beach famous for its surfers, Hawden Road to see wild cocatoos, koalas and eclestus parrots and shipwreck gorge. The highlight of the trip of course, being the 12 apostles. We arrived at 12 apostles around 1600 or so, the sun was starting to set which makes photographing the rock formations a little challenging as a lot of it is in shadow. Still, views are not to be missed. Great tour if you have limited time and want to see scenic views.

Booked for me and my parents. They are in almost 70 and they enjoyed it a lot. Good luck we had nice weather day. The ocean view is amazing. The 12 apostles were really the highlitght. We also enjoy the stops before reaching there, especially a stop to see live parrots. Good job “Beth”, our guide, for her wonderful service.

I would highly recommend the Great Ocean Road tour. The tour guide Kaitlyn did an excellent job in holding the attention of the group for what was a very long day. It was a very scenic drive all along, with stopover at various places and informative commentary from the guide on their history and background. The visit to the twelve apostles and the rain forest was a great experience. Value for money!

Th great apostles was nice but the driving is a majority of the trip. This tour made me realize that if the guide hadn't been fun, I wouldn’t have enjoyed the day. We stopped a lot and saw fun things I didn’t expect to stop for.
