What You Can Expect

Phillip Island Nature Park and Wildlife Seals Cruise

The Little Penguins

Enjoy two popular Phillip Island tours on this guided wildlife adventure. After pickup from your Melbourne hotel, enjoy the scenic, 2-hour drive to Phillip Island. Head to the southernmost tip of the island for a cruise around Seal Rocks — home to the largest fur seal colony in Australia. Watch thousands of these playful marine creatures bask in the sun, scoot along rocks and splash in the water.

Explore other areas of Phillip Island, including the Nobbies rock formation and windswept plains where you can often spot wild wallabies. Stop at a local restaurant for lunch midway through the tour (own expense).

For the grand finale, make your way to a series of boardwalks on a local beach for the famous Penguin Parade. Every night just after sunset, hundreds of little penguins — the smallest in the world — emerge from the water with bellies full of fish and waddle across the sand and bush to their burrows. Enjoy upgraded seating for the best view of this adorable natural spectacle.

Once the penguins are safely tucked in for the night, relax on the return drive to Melbourne, where you'll be dropped off back to your hotel in the late evening.

Please note: Occasionally, bad weather will make the Seal Rocks cruise inoperable. In this event, enjoy a cruise around the dramatic granite cliffs of Cape Woolamai instead. See rookeries of cormorants and muttonbird flocks, and keep an eye out for passing dolphins and seals. You'll also enjoy afternoon tea and delicious muffins.

This was the highlight of our visit to Melbourne. Totally mesmerised by the seals on the rocks and the penguins parade. Beautiful small town too. The crew of the cruise to the seals rocks were super friendly. Our guide, Russell from Grayline Tours was a very knowledgeable and friendly guy.

Highly recommended. Very interesting nature of the seal island. In the moonlit sanctuary, we had the chance to pat and hug koala and feed kangaroo and wallaby. The nobbies very beautiful. Coached bus driver very informative and friendly. Will do it again!

It was great to be at the Seals Rock for some up close and personal experience. The weather turned out to be good, water was calm, got really close to the seals and see them play around the boat.
The penguin parade is a must do when visiting Victoria. Seeing them coming up the shore from afar, and they slowly walk back to their burrows. Those little penguins are just adorable.

The penguins are so cute, and you get fairly close to them without disturbing them. Shame about the crowds of people. We enjoyed the cruise and seeing the seals.

This tour was hard to find online, probably because it is rare, as the seals are viewed from a boat in Bass Straight (so it is not available in bad weather). It was canceled the day before I was to go, but the operator offered me a variety of options to fill in the day, before seeing the penguins in the evening. I certainly commend their organisation of a myriad interlocking tours, their patience in looking for 'lost' travellers, and their their overall professional yet friendly approach. Don't miss the penguins!

We did not see the seals, just a plain boat ride to some islands.
