This was the highlight of our trip!
Herman was a great guide... we were delayed getting to the mountain accident on the road and then police guided the cars to the Chile border, so slower than usual but the mountains are amazing and so gorgeous to look at.

We started late up the mountain - but the weather was great - did not even need a jacket! Saw Aconcagua the entire trek. It started out easy... just slight upward climbing and the adjustment to the altitude was okay... but as you climb upward, the altitude makes you have to stop and breathe more than usual. We stopped for lunch right after the bridge... and trekked on... and made it up to the camp! What an accomplishment..

However, we could not enjoy it because of being late, we had to immediately trek down - did that fast because you have to be down by 6PM... amazing time... and so memorable.

You have to be fit and aware of the altitude issues before taking this trip for sure.

The climb to base camp is not, in itself, a tough climb. However, breathing while doing so is a different story. This wasn't unexpected, but is interesting to experience, slowly ambling uphill in aerobic distress.
We were not blessed with the best weather for it, in terms of views of Aconcagua itself, but that is the lottery with any such activity. Our guide Rocie was helpful and attentive and a pleasure to be with, and very informative. All in all, a good day out, and a good step towards fitness for later climbs on our overall trip.
