What You Can Expect

Mexico City Markets and Food Tour

Savour several tasty Mexican culinary samplings

Meet your guide at the Museo Mexicano del Diseño in Mexico City. Begin your insider tour of the city's best markets the way the locals do: with a ride on the subway.

Your first stop is a market that even some locals don't know about. As you have a look around, learn about the context of this place in Mexican society and its history in the early 20th century. Hear about the market's connection to prominent Mexico City historical figures Diego Rivera and Frida Kahlo.

Jump back on public transport and head for the bizarre witchcraft market, where you can purchase an all-natural hangover cure, a traditional piñata, a superhero costume or all manner of voodoo items and magic potions. Continue a few blocks to a market that has 3 parts: flowers, fresh produce and prepared food. Ask one of the vendors in the largest flower market in the city to pick out some flowers that match your eye color. Stroll through the warren of stalls chock full of local products, tasting mixed fruit juices, fruit cocktail, Mexican barbecue, tamales and pineapple tepache as you walk.

Last stop is a local patio for some more food samples, ensuring you won't end your 5-hour tour hungry.

This tour is an amazing value. You'll have the opportunity to taste the food of Mexico City while discovering hidden cultural treasures such world renowned murals and love potions. Our tour guide, Sofia, was fantastic. She's energetic, knowledgeable, and was a delight to talk with. She was so helpful, in fact, that she helped me figure out the subway system and map a route back to my hotel--she even gave me advice as to what times I should avoid the subway due to rush hour people traffic. I highly recommend this tour on your first day in the city it'll introduce you to foods that you may want to indulge later in your trip and get you acquainted with the city's public transportation. Tip: you can skip breakfast if you're starting this tour in the morning. Included in the tour are plenty of food samples. I have a pretty healthy appetite and even I was full by the end of the tour.

This tour was really fantastic for my first day in Mexico City. It was slow-paced and really interesting. Rodrigo is AWESOME. The other person on my tour never showed up so it was only me. Even though it was a solo tour, Rodrigo made it fun and interesting. He knows every corner of the city and really cares about showing you a good time. I ate until I couldnt have another bite and it was all very delicious. The markets were offbeat and quirky. It felt like having a friend show you around the city.

This tour is a great way to experience Mexico City as an every-day local! We walked through the city center a bit with a guide explaining a lot!, toured markets, road the bus, and took the metro. We stopped for several tastes of different snacks! I was stuffed afterwards! This tour is a lot of walking and meandering through the markets. I would definitely recommend comfortable, weather suitable clothes and shoes. Bring spare cash/smaller change so you can pick up a few things if they catch your eyes! I got some delicious fruits and a traditional apron.

This was one of our favorite tours. It was with Urban Adventures and the whole tour is mostly walking and you do get to use city transit between markets. This gave us a great overview of life outside of the tourist areas and to see what many of the locals do on a daily basis. We got to try a variety of food and experience the diversity of their markets. Our guide was fun and had great knowledge of the markets and the overall city. Definitely one of the highlights of our trip!

Super tour with Rodrigo and Evelyn as our guides. We got plenty of delicious food and drinks Tamales, Huaraches, tacos... along the way they ask you straight away if you have any food intolerance and discovered part of the Centro Historico and 3 different markets.
The guys are super knowledgeable, super friendly and you can get the tour in English or Spanish depending on your group - my tour was in English but the guides are happy to speak Spanish with you. That was 5 to 6h well spent in the city, I highly recommend that tour, the guides and this company

what an amazing tour. We had an awesome guide called Caesar, who spoke fluent English and was very informative and knowledgeable. We had a hotel breakfast before the tour, but would recommend having a light breakfast as we got to try a lot of local delights along the way including some of the best pork tacos I have ever had. We went to a few different markets and Caesar was happy to answer any questions we had about anything Mexican. We hopped on a local bus to the witchcraft markets, and the main market area which was packed due to it being day of the dead. There were lots of colours and people and the markets were full of energy. The flower markets were amazing too, so colourful and the smell was awesome! We then jumped on the subway to another market, and I think without a local tour guide we probably wouldn't have the confidence to get on the local bus or subway. After the tour Caesar helped us get to the craft market where we continued shopping and found some awesome gifts and clothes. I cant recommend this tour enough, and if ou do book ask for Caesar, just like the salad as he told us. Awesome day, Awesome guide, well worth it....

Great tour. I got a chance to see a lot of things that I wouldn't discover on my own as a stranger in Mexico City. The tour guide was informative, friendly and helpful. He speaks good English, and he paid attention to everyone's need. We tried various kinds of food and snacks, and learned a lot of local cultural and customs. Everyone was having a good time.

The only thing I disliked about this tour, however, is that I had to share food with other people strangers on the tour. Since the tour was sold individually, I expected that each person is supposed to have her own share of food and drink. For example, when we tasted donuts, I thought everyone should have a whole donut, not four people share two donuts. The food at the markets was inexpensive. For what we paid, it would be reasonable for everyone to have a bigger portion of food and drink. I don't know whether this happens on other tours, but it happened on my tour.

Besides that, the rest of the tour was fun and delightful. I recommend this tour to travelers who want to see a less touristic yet livelier side of Mexico City.
