What You Can Expect

Mexico City Sightseeing Tour with Anthropology Museum and Behind-the-Scenes at Bellas Artes

Get a behind-the-scenes look of Bellas Artes

After meeting your guide, your full-day tour begins at the National Museum of Anthropology, with 23 permanent exhibit halls showcasing traditional Mexican history and artifacts, including the Aztec Stone of the Sun. After seeing part of the permanent exhibit, you'll be driven along Reforma Avenue, where you can see monuments and sculptures that commemorate some of Mexico's most historical events. This includes ‘Diana the Huntress,’ ‘Angel of Independence’ and the ‘Column of the Bicentennial.’

As you approach the city's historic center, step inside the beautiful Palace of Fine Arts (Palacio de Bellas Artes), for a guided tour. Enjoy an inside look at the National Theater, and learn about the incredible performances that have taken place there. Check out the one-of-a-kind curtain, made with nearly a million pieces of mosaic colored glass from Tiffany's in New York. The curtain weighs 27 tons!

Then, walk by some of the busiest streets in the city's historic district and visit the Zocalo. Hear about the former seat of the Aztec empire, admire the Metropolitan Cathedral and stroll through downtown, passing by the National Palace.

After this comprehensive day of sightseeing, enjoy transport back to the central meeting point.

The Anthropology Tour provides important info and background to this superb, world class museum which covers the history of the country. Lulu, our excellent guide provided special emphasis to the Aztec and Mayan cultures. It is not located in the Downtown area and transportation was provided to that area to complete our tour.

I wouldn't say that behind the Scenes at Bellas Artes is an accurate description of the second half of the tour which is located near the city center. We stopped briefly at Bellas Artes but didn't explore the building, instead, we went to the Zocalo and had a good tour of the cathedral and adjacent Temple Major, both fascinating locations. An excellent and valuable tour overall with important background to the culture and history of Mexico.

Not a bad tour, but not the best for myself. The tour guide was knowledgeable and friendly. Unfortunatley for me the tour was basically the Museum, which I could take or leave, then a taxi ride to the Bellas Artes, We were there on a day that they allowed us into the hall and they did a short play giving the history of the the Bellas Artes it is a wonderful building. Then we walked to the Zocalo, where unfortuantely we were only able to go into the Cathedral, other places were blocked off because of a concert they were setting up for.

The museum was incredible. Our guide was knowledgeable and friendly. The one major downside was that we picked up other tourists through out the day that did not have the same package so we saw the murals at Bellas Artes but never got to enter the theatre and see the behind the scenes....very disappointing.

The tour was nice and the guide was super nice and friendly. However, I wished that she would share more background information about the areas we traveled through as we moved from sight to sight. As it was, we learned some very interesting background about some topics covered in the archaeological museum, and about some sights in the historical city center, but it all felt a little disconnected. The tour overall, met my expectations, but it would need to be improved to impress and exceed expectations.

3 star rating: Worth doing April 2016

Great tour and great guide. However, we did not even visit Bellas Artes, which was the primary reason I booked this particular tour. Needless to say, I was disappointed.

2 star rating: It was OK, but could have been better October 2017

Very poorly organized
Spent hours in shops and long lunch and only short time at sites
Most passengers were Spanish speaking with only 2 english tourists so english guiding was extremely short
Very disappointed would recommend to any english speaking tourists
You cant sell those tours to English speaking tourists its deceiving
