Overview

Take in the grandeur of the Teotihuacan pyramids from the sky — this hot-air balloon adventure gives you stunning bird’s-eye views of the UNESCO site commonly called the City of the Gods. Want to see more? Upgrade to explore the Teotihuacan archaeological zone by foot on a guided tour. Don’t miss this chance to experience Maya culture and heritage like few others have before!
  • Hot air balloon flight over the Teotihuacan Pyramids
  • Enjoy breathtaking aerial views of the Teotihuacan zone and the Sun and Moon pyramids
  • Upgrade to include a guided tour of the Teotihuacan archaeological zone
  • Pickup and drop-off from most Mexico City hotels included
After morning hotel pickup from Mexico City, get ready for a one-in-a-lifetime adventure. Receive a safety briefing and then climb into a colorful hot-air balloon with your guide. Float effortlessly up into the sky, soak up the gorgeous panoramas of the Mexico landscapes and then sail over the Teotihuacan pyramids, a UNESCO World Heritage site. You’ll be in the air for about an hour, with a vehicle following your balloon below, equipped with radio communication.

Your guide points out the major landmarks of Teotihuacan, aka the City of the Gods, including the Sun and Moon pyramids, Temple of Quetzalpapalotl and the Avenue of the Dead. Click away with your camera — very few visitors will have these aerial shots of Teotihuacan.

After you land, board your vehicle that whisks you away to a place where you can commemorate your airborne adventure with a glass of wine and a flight certificate.

If you chose to take the guided Teotihuacan tour, continue to the archaeological park. In this pre-Columbian Mesoamerican city, wander down wide avenues, thousands of years old, and hear about the customs and culture of this ancient site. Remnants of fine pottery from Teotihuacan are exhibited around the world.

Enjoy up-close views of the pyramids that you saw from the air, including the Temple of the Feathered Serpent, the third-largest pyramid at Teotihuacan. Don’t miss the chance to climb up the Sun Pyramid and the Moon Pyramid.

Your tour ends with transport back to your Mexico City hotel.

An experience all dependent on weather

It was my first time in an hot air balloon and that experience in itself was amazing! But for this particular tour and it’s purpose, it was not to par. We didn’t get close to the pyramid at all, which was the main attraction and reason why we booked this tour. We can’t blame the tour company since the wind directs the balloon but if you’re planning to book this tour, be forewarned. I didn’t even think it was windy at all but I guess even a little will move us. I wish there was a better way to guarantee flight over the pyramids :( Otherwise, we did get some nice photos of the other balloons and a small pyramid in the background.

Thank you so much for your comments, they are really appreciated and considered. Certainly the hot air balloon is an amazing experience, even if you do not fly over the pyramids. Believe me, we would like to guarantee your flight, unfortunately the weather plays a very important part, we depend on it as you already know. It will be a pleasure you visit us again in a near future. Thank you again for your comments Annie. Best regards.

Fabulous experience

This truly lived to its billing. The price was higher than many things in a very inexpensive city but this group delivered in a fabulous way. Seeing sunrise over ancient pyramids from beautiful balloons is surreal and a lifetime memory.

Balloon Ride was Cancelled
Santosh S
, Sep 2019
It’s rainy season folks. The tour sounds great. But getting up at 4am, and then getting picked up at 5:15, to wait until 9am to potentially get on the hot air balloon. They cancelled it once the clouds rolled in and started raining. Go directly to the pyramids, at least you will be able to sleep in and enjoy your time wisely. We still await a refund for the hot air balloon.

We really appreciate you took the time to share your comments with us. We regret the hot air balloon was cancelled, as you mentioned we are in rainy season, so that is why it is specificated that in case of rain, for security, it will be cancelled. We are working on your refund, you will receive it soon. We would like to have the opportunity you visit us again to live that spectacular experience of the hot air balloon. Best regards.

The hot air balloon tour over the Pyramids is a definite must do for any photographer or nature lover. Seeing these ancient ruins from that perspective is a totally different experience to seeing them from the ground up. The ride is very smooth and gives you plenty of time to take amazing photos and take in the nature and surrounds. The early morning shadows and clear skies provide an amazing backdrop for the photos and videos. Truly an amazing experience and I am fortunate to have been able to do it.

Definitely something worth experiencing. Booked this trip on Trip Advisor through Viator and everything went off without a hitch. The ride goes up to 11,000 feet in altitude and the views are unbelievable, but from that height it can be a bit intimidating if heights make you nervous. It's kind of like being on the balcony of a really, really tall building. The ride itself may or may not go over the pyramids. You are really at the mercy of the wind. I was surprised just how little control the pilot had over the balloon and you land kind of wherever you land. If the pilot is good, it's near a road. I'd say it's slightly more dangerous than I thought it was for that reason. A few negatives, our pilot/tour guide spoke only Spanish, the tour would've cost 35 pp less if we booked it directly, and depending upon when your balloon lands, you may have to wait a long time before the bus takes you back to the city. But you get a great breakfast after the flight and all in all, I can't fault the experience. It was a lot of fun!

What a fantastic way to see the Teotihuacan Pyramids! The pilot was very knowledgeable about the Pyramids and the area, answering everyone's questions. Plus, he and the crew did a great job of getting us off the ground and back down safely. The basket holds eight, but was comfortable. You have to get up early and it's about an hour shuttle ride to the Pyramids, but it was worth it.
