What You Can Expect

Manistee River Canoeing Day Tour

The famous sand-clay cliffs of the Manistee

Your 9-hour canoeing trip to the Manistee River starts at 8am. Meet your guide at the Hodenpyl Dam, which is about an hour outside of Manistee city. Your guide gets you set up with a canoe and goes over a few safety precautions. He or she also teaches you how to use your canoe, and lets you know what the day has in store.

Because you can customize this trip, make sure to mention at the time of booking if there are activities you’d like to do along the way or special things of interest you’d like to hear about. Some options other travelers have chosen in the past include stopping to swim, jumping form a rope swing, sunbathing on the riverbanks, and going up to the top of the area’s sand cliffs. Plus, the river is known for its local folklore, which is quite popular among visitors.

Paddle down the river in your canoe. Your guide has built a day based on what you’d like to do best. When you need a break, stop for lunch. Your canoe trip ends around 5pm. If you’d like, there is an option to camp out afterwards (own expense). Otherwise, at the end, a shuttle takes you back to the Hodenpyl Dam.
