What You Can Expect

Skip the Line: Milan Duomo Guided Tour

Admire Milan Duomo and avoid the long entrance queues

Meet your guide in front of the Milan Duomo, and - if there are more than six people on the tour - don headphones so you won’t miss anything your guide says. Admire the exterior of the cathedral before going inside, contemplating the nearly 600 years it took to finish construction and the seemingly endless array of statues and spires that decorate the Duomo.

Follow your guide right past the lines with this skip-the-line tour, entering the dimly-lit cathedral. Learn about some of the lesser-known architectural and design features - including some symbols that are usually associated with paganism - as well as some of the cathedral’s prominent elements.

See paintings, sculptures, and stained glass windows decorating the vast interior space - the largest cathedral in Italy - and hear how Milan’s Duomo fits into the city’s history. Go beneath the Duomo floor into the crypt below the altar to see the tomb of Saint Charles Borromeo, a 16th-century archbishop of Milan.

The tour lasts roughly an hour, and finishes back outside the cathedral in Piazza Duomo.

Note that you’ll need to choose either a weekend or weekday departure, and this tour does not include a visit to the Duomo rooftop.

We rarely take guided tours when travelling and this time we did so to skip the long line to enter the duomo. It was worth the try not only for the line but for the excellent viator insight guide of this amazing cathedral. Not to be missed when visiting Milan especially with a guided tour .

What an amazing building, and skipping the line was definitely the right thing to do. It truly opened up the rest of the day for learning more about this great city.

The tour was great and the guide also, however when I booked the tour I requested the tour with the elevator. When I got there the guide told me that it was only the inside tour - no elevator needed. I was able to purchase a ticket from him and do the other part of the tour which was fantastic - on the rooftop of the Duomo - I'm so glad I was lucky enough to get this. I was also lucky that the tour was on Sunday - I got to hear the organ which sounded wonderful all during the tour if you don't like music playing which can make it a bit hard to hear the guide, don't go on a Sunday. Our guide was good about making himself heard and picking quieter places to explain things. Walking the rooftop isn't for the faint at heart and does include up and down steps but well worth it. Not only is the view terrific, but seeing the statues and flying buttresses up close and walking through them is great. A word of caution - don't take a backpack if at all possible for the rooftop tour - the guards make you empty it for security. Even a handbag gets a thorough look through. The security isn't quite a tough for the inside tour. Unfortunately with the state of the world this is something we need to get used to, but everyone was very polite and helpful. This is something not to be missed.

A must see in Milan for the historic value and understanding of the Catholic religion and the architecture used to build the magnificent edifice.
