Begin with pickup at your Mombasa hotel, and make the 3-hour drive to Tsavo East National Park in a private vehicle. Hear the park’s dramatic history along the way: a pair of man-eating Tsavo lions preyed on workers during the construction of the Kenya-Uganda Railway in 1898, inspiring the book The Man-Eaters of Tsavo.
Upon arrival in the park, watch for wildlife on a personalized game drive. Head to the Sabaki River hippo pools to watch the enormous creatures ‘yawn’ at the surface of the water, and visit a series of water holes where animals come to drink throughout the day. Take advantage of this private tour to customize the game drive, searching for the wildlife that interests you most. Tsavo East National Park is part of the largest protected area in Kenya, and is home to rhino, lions, buffalo, leopards, waterbucks. The park also provides habitat for more than 500 species of birds, including ostriches, kestrels, secretary birds, and weaver birds.
Pause for a picnic lunch on the banks of the Sabaki River, then continue with an afternoon game drive in the direction of Mombasa. This tour concludes with drop-off at your Mombasa hotel.
