What You Can Expect

Small-Group Arts Tour of the French Riviera from Monaco

Matisse Museum, Nice

Begin your arts exploration of the French Riviera with pickup at your Monaco hotel, then enjoy a scenic drive along the Middle Corniche road. You'll get fantastic views over the Mediterranean as you head toward your first tour stop in Saint-Jean-Cap-Ferrat.

Spend time in the Villa Ephrussi de Rothschild, the one-time home of Madame  Ephrussi de Rothschild. Visit the former private apartments, still beautifully decorated, and home to a particularly excellent collection of porcelain. Walk through the villa's nine gardens, where pretty fountains sit between plantings of exotic flowers, and soak in the incredible coastal views from this lovely spot.

Next, drive down to the waterfront city of Nice, where there are several nice art museums and galleries. Join your knowledgeable guide for a stop in the Cimiez neighborhood for a trip to the Chagall Museum (Musée National Message Biblique Marc Chagall). Here, you'll have time to explore the collection on your own, including the famous series of biblical paintings.

Nice is also home to the Matisse Museum, which is the last stop on your tour. Henri Matisse lived in the city from 1917 to 1954, and this museum holds a significant collection of his work. The museum is in a 17th-century formerly private villa, though not one Matisse occupied, with olive trees in the gardens outside.

Please note: Your visits to the museums are independent; your guide will not join you inside the museums.

This was a great tour. Our driver, Oliver, was excellent. He told us about the area as we drove from Monte Carlo to Nice. We wish we had more time at the Chagall Museum (only 45 min.), we barely finished the audio tour. Oliver was very accommodating and drove us thru Massena Sq. and on a little bit of the Prom. des Anglises for atmosphere. The Rothschild's Mansions was an additional treat - beautiful gardens and views of the Mediterranean. All in all, a memorable tour at a great price. Convenient pick-up at the pier, on time visits to the museums and congenial guide. This was our 1st Viator - we'll be back!
