What You Can Expect

Dunns River Falls and Ocho Rios Shopping Tour

Dunns River Falls and Ocho Rios Shopping Tour

Following morning pickup at your Montego Bay hotel, settle in for the scenic 60-mile (97-km) drive to Dunn's River Falls. Take the opportunity during the 1.5-hour drive up Jamaica's North Coast Highway to admire the views of rural Jamaica, passing through the historic towns of Falmouth and Columbus Park.

This popular natural attraction has appeared in movies such as Dr. No and Cocktail. When you arrive, experience the superstar location for yourself as you relax on the waterfalls' adjacent sundeck, swim in the lagoon at the bottom, or play on the nearby white sand beach.

If you're feeling adventurous, follow your guide on the climb to the top of the 600-foot (180-meter) falls. Put on some non-slip water shoes (available for rental at the welcome center) and start up the terraced falls, the rocks naturally forming 'steps' for you to climb. Along the way, stop in one of the many pools to relax and cool off. At the top, you get to enjoy panoramic views of the surrounding rain forest.

Your Dunn's River Falls adventure ends with the trip back to Montego Bay and drop-off at your hotel.

Shopping Option (additional 3 hours):
Stop by downtown Ocho Rios before heading to Dunn's River Falls for a couple of hours of shopping. Enjoy lunch at one of the local restaurants (own expense,) and peruse the marketplace for wood carvings, native artwork, local coffee and rum.

This adventure was one of the highlights of our trip. The Falls are beautiful although challenging and the ride there is filled with beautiful scenery and in a great travel bus. We enjoyed the shopping and a chance to purchase local made souvenirs and have a true Jamaican lunch. But, the real highlight of the day, for us, was the opportunity to spend the day with the Captain and Carol and if you're lucky enough to get to meet these 2 and spend your time with them, you will be blessed in surprising ways!

We chose the JTL Dunn's River Falls/Ocho Rios Shopping tour we reserved thru Viator. Picked up at the hotel in a nice van which held about 20. Carol was an exceptional guide. She provided local color and details regarding the agriculture and culture of the island during the 1 hour ride from Iberostar to Ocho Rios. Only about an hour stop in Ocho Rios. Do take a stroll beyond the 2 block street of stores where the van is parked. Additional shopping and touring near the cruise ships.
Dunn's river falls seemed a little over 100 yards long are not extremely challenging but it is an accomplishment and a memory. The guides are professional and extremely helpful in aiding those who need it and identifying the fun spots for pics and where to get really wet.
Can be a little busy with different groups mingling as they work at different speeds ascending the falls. We went on Monday and found we had only 1 other group mixing in our climb. They seem to stage the groups well. Other commentators discussing crowds may have been climbing during a 'cruise ship' day.
