We had a wonderful experience. Our drive there was scenic as we passed through the mountains and small towns. Our driver Denzel was wonderful to talk with and gave us a personal tour through his hometown where we got to meet his family. Lester was our guide at the falls and he was wonderful. He guided us up the falls not a very challenging hike making sure we felt comfortable with every step. I loved his knowledge of the area and the local plants too. Great experience! I would recommend this for anyone who wants to get out of the touristy areas of Jamaica. The ride from Montego Bay area lasted about 1 1/2 hours through small winding roads. There was no real strenuous hiking, more of a walk through the river up and then a pleasant 10-15 minute? walk back through the countryside.
We really enjoyed the falls and that's why I gave it five stars. A bit more information when booking the tour would've been helpful. If you are reading this and you don't want your sneakers to get wet, wear water shoes or you can rent shoes there for 7/pair. We chose to wear our sneakers because we weren't told we needed water shoes and they got soaked. With that being said, the humid Jamaican air dried them out in one day! We also didn't know that the driver to the falls was not going to be our tour guide, so we brought cash to tip one person and not two. It worked out fine because the other couple we went with had extra money, but we would've loved to have known that up front. Other than those two small hiccups, we found the entire booking process and experience seamless and enjoyable. There was a protest during our drive to the falls, so our trip there took 2.5 hours instead of 1.5 hours, but the driver couldn't have prevented that. Our driver was great, our tour guide was excellent, and our experience was memorable. Highly recommend.
Not at all what I expected although far better. This reads like a casual hike along a river with some falls, what this really should be listed as is a hike THROUGH the river and falls. They dont like you along side it but in the river and falls. So notes they don't mention, bring water shoes if you have them otherwise you have to pay to rent them, second, expect some physical work. You can choose to get out if the tide is too strong or you do not feel okay with a certain fall, otherwise, this is a physical hike up a river climbing each fall as you get to it. Incredible and very unique experience you will not regret. Our guide Dennis was incredible, he knows the river backwards and showed us all the great spots. He also somehow managed to recover a gopro that got ripped off my wrist in the washing machine which was an incredible act. If you bring cameras hold them tight, and only take what you absolutely must. The washing machine can and will take everything you let it. I still can not speak highly enough about this trip and our guide, I just wish we understood going into it what it was! Viator really needs to update their description. I would do it again though in a heartbeat, this time bringing my own water shoes which we had at the hotel.
Three letters to describe this experience... OMG!!! We had an absolute blast! I been to Mayfields before and had an amazing time so I wanted to take my friend who had never been. She was blown away and had an outstanding time! The nature and adventurous experience was absolutely captivating. We must give a very special shout out to our tour guides, Rasheed and Dwight! They were made the experience even more unforgettable! This is definitely a must see for everyone who goes out to Jamaica!!! Don't miss out!
What fun hiking up Mayfield falls! We walked down the short path, across a bamboo bridge and got right into the water to hike up the falls. There are lots of natural pools and falls to play and swim in. We got photos behind a waterfall, sat in a spot called the rocking chair where you hang your legs over the rocks of the waterfall lean back and the water flow gently rocks you back and forth, and played in a natural Jacuzzi. The water was so cool, crystal clear and refreshing. With the help of our guide, I climbed a tree and jumped into one of the pools. He was great about taking lots of beautiful photos with my camera. The drive there is interesting. The roads are winding, narrow and very bumpy, but it was worth the trip!
totally brilliant. Not too far from Negril very quiet, not too many people.Great guides and good fun- but very wet.Loved swimming in cool fresh water pools
The tour was absolutely wonderful. Our driver met us early in the morning from our Montego Bay resort. After about a 1.5 hour drive it's a long and bumpy ride, but well worth it, we arrived at Mayfield Falls. The water is fresh, clean and absolutely beautiful. I recommend bringing watershoes, I purchased some river walking shoes that helped wonderfully for the grip during the hike. There are small cliff jumps, under water tunnels that are pretty neat as well.
This was an amazing experience. Our driver was prompt and knowledgeable. The trip from Negril to Mayfield Falls was scenic and comfortable. The Falls are absolutely gorgeous and our guide was wonderful. We were the first people there that day which made it even better - our own private falls! Highly recommend this tour!
